Where are the Liveries??????

Just taken on a brilliant yard with all for horse and rider. Big indoor American stable block, heated rug room, 6x Monarch horse walker, 60x30 gel track sand school with all jumps, own paddocks gr8 hacking to pirbright common just one village road to cross on site teaching and out side teaching welcome, Big private elic gated excess, c.c.t.v and 24hr on site care. And we are cheaper than other yards around us, just 2 miles from Merriest wood close to M3. We cater for all. But we have had NO calls......
Is the Money crunch that bad!!!!

If people are happy on the yard then they wont move unless the money really forces them to, also you find that once the first lot move on and like it, then start telling their mates and you get move.

What ad's are you doing?

perhaps people know of the yard and what happened to the last lot of liveries and dont want to risk going there again.

Just what i was going to say Star.
Never been a livery there myself but i know a few that have!

Is it still owned by the same person??

I have the opposite problem can't get onto a yard with all those facilities, everywhere is full and as soon as I hear there maybe a space it is already gone.

I tend to look in the local online adds for vacancies, saddlerys are also good for advertising but not everyone visits them all the time so I would say make sure you are advertising online somewhere.

If you have taken over a yard make sure you make it clear it is under new management, especially if there have been problems in the past.

Erm.. offer deals in local tack shops they CANNOT refuse!
also... the credit crunch is gonna take a massive hit into their household bills, they might beleive that their YO's wont put their prices up when their domestic bills go up =[

Good Luck =D

Sounds like a fab yard - shame I'm not in your area!

I'm sure people will move once they get to hear to about the yard and service. Plus, surely this it the quietest part of the year coz people are keeping them at grass.

How about doing some promotional stuff to get the message across?

move to devon and then ill come

maybe put 'under new management' on your ad, so old judgements would no longer be valid
good luck, the facilities sound fab

It sounds great, when I wanted a place like that I waited 3 months on a waiting list. It was lovely but cost the earth!

Hang in there gucci!, We have a fab yard, small but very nice! IT took 9 months to fill, even though demand is high in our area. Think you will find that unfortunately this time of year the trickies,t as most" liveries" will have forgotten why they wanted to move as summer seems to very quickly dull the memory! As soon as the nights start to draw in you wiil be inundated(SP) Also we find that calls come at the end of each month... I asume that as most places run a 1 months notice policy this is when poeple tend to look at whats about! Your yard sounds fab. Lots of adverts, Also what we did was re-do the adds every month, so those people who may have seen it & for what ever reason didnt ring, will see a diff add up nxt time. I know when i used to be a livery some yards just didnt appeal by their add. Also if people see the same add up for some time they may assume that if the yard is not full yet there must be a good reason why not. I never put how many stables available either, just a good description of yard etc. hope this helps. (hope i didnt ramble too much)

it sounds absolutely wonderful, i'm sure demand will grow when people realise that it is under new management.
are you being flexible about d.i.y/part/full livery? if so, worth putting that in ads i think... for instance if they're on d.i.y. but you're happy to turn out/bring in (by proper arrangement, and for a fee)... some places won't.

Thanks liveryblues & Kerilli
Thats helpfull info. We are doing Full and Part livery. Just have to hang on in there I guess. xx

I'm having a similar problem at the moment. I've lost a few liveries in the past couple of months purely down to financial reasons, and am struggling to get the boxes full again. The local tack shops have been inundated with ads, as have horse quest, EWW and one going into the BE mag this time. If I offered DIY I could fill the yard 5 times over, but I only offer part/full etc and really don't want to have to offer assisted DIY to fill the boxes if I can avoid it.
Good luck!

Now if you picked your livery yards up and brought them to East Anglia you wouldn't have a problem - we have nothing here!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have just taken on a yard in Wiltshire excellent facilities got it all and im not having any calls!!!

I think you've hit the nail on the head there - it probably is purely financial, particularly in the current economic climate. There are loads of full/part livery vacancies round her, in some absolutely lovely yards but not enough people can afford full livery even if they would like to - DIY is the only option for most.
