where are the parents?!

At a cost of between £5 and £8 per class around us, we couldn't afford to do loads of classes. My stepson is limited to 4/5 classes - usually a mixture of handy pony, games, working hunter and a jumping class or two.

We have done shows where another rider did a couple of classes on him and my son did others, and the pony was fine. He is fit and ridden regularly, and gets a day off afterwards, plus his tack comes off and he gets to graze if there is time inbetween classes.

As others have said, in my day we would have had to hack five miles there and back as well. Perhaps thats why there wasn't as much laminitus around then??

I do have issues with people (because it is not just a kid thing) belting round and round in the practice arena all day. I also have issues with people going in the novice/lower classes on things that should be in the bigger classes. Our local shows do ban people that have won in the novice classes from entering them the following season, but often you get someone helping in the secretary's tent who doesn't know who won last year, and the entrants aren't that truthful.. We have also tried to have a warm up ring steward, to make sure that only those in the classes are using the warm up fences, but again it boiled down to a problem of not enough helpers at shows to do it...
