I was just wondering where people were staying for the Burghly weekend? Origionally we were only going for 1 day this year due to not getting time away from work but have now gotton time away to go up for the Saturday and Sunday and today tried to book in for the George with no success.

My own fault really but just wondering where else was nice to stay?

We're camping - on the golf course, in the caravan. Its lovely. If you are going to book in somewhere do it ASAP! Places get booked up very quickly!

At Burghley? I didnt think you could book online any more for that? I didnt think to check as I thought it would be all sold out by now, Ill need to hire a caravan too!

You'll be lucky to find any hotel within a 10 mile radius with spaces i think. We stay every year for 1 or 2 nights, and book the year before.
I can't remember the name of the place we're staying at but its like a half an hour drive away, counting traffic queues, but its very nice. Will let you know name once i can remember it :)
If you want to stay close, i would say camp or hire a caravan.

No, I was refering to booking to stay in a local holel , they get booked up too! - the campsite slots have been booked for a while I think. But you can get on a cancelation list if you ring up - I know a few people who got spaces last year from the list.

At home - we live an hour away, including the queues:)

I think The George is almost booked from year to year. And I think all hotels anywhere near will be booked ages ago. If you can still camp that's great, we've stayed with friends a couple of times, it's good fun. Otherwise I think you'll be best off at a travelodge or similar, there are a few very close by and cheaper for one night than paying for camping for the season.

You'll be lucky to find somewhere at such short notice!

We've struggled the last two years because we don't find out whether we have got a tradestand space until April, and by then lots of B&Bs etc are booked up. Obviously we wouldn't want 4 nights in a B&B if we didn't get a tradestand.

The best places book up a full year in advance.

Last year we really fell on our feet and got a room in a newly completed B&B, it was only free I think because they weren't sure it would be ready! So we asked them to hold the room for us and agreed to pay a deposit as soon as we had our tradestand confirmed. Thank goodness they agreed!

We normally get an accomodation list from tourist information and ring round them all, starting with those closest to the event and just book the first one we find with vacancies.

Unfortunately you will struggle even more than us as lots of B&Bs and Hotels will not accept a single night booking for Burghley/Badminton. They would rather find someone willing to book three or four nights.

I will be staying at home as I live about 45 minutes away! :D

There are lots of pubs which offer B&B in the country villages around Melton Mowbray and also a really nice hotel at Stapleford Hall. It depends how far you are willing to travel though!

Pass, It just said Barnsdale Hall Hotel , Oakham. The local torist office advised me that there is a bus that runs from near the hotel to Burghly and we could taxi back in the afternoon/evening. My friend is driving so to taxi means we can both drink when at Burghly. So excited I just hope the sun comes out

Kat how do you find Burghley as a Trade Stand holder? We have got a Stand there for the 1st time this year (had to go in the World of the Horse as cant get our own stand for love n money lol). Just interested what to expect. We do Badminton - is it similar to that?

We are staying with friends in what I can only describe as a mansion... it is huge!!! So definitely not roughing it, I am so excited :D
