Where can I buy a shipping container?

Does anyone know where I could buy a cheapish shipping container please?

Need to store some hay for winter, and can't think of anything else I could use to keep it dry.

I bought a curtain-sided lorry back, 20 feet long, for £400 including delivery, I was lucky though as the guy who built my barn had a brother who had one. Might be worth considering though, or a horsebox container, they sometimes get sold once the lorry underneath is past it's best.

I googled shipping containers and there are lots, but not cheap, all around 1k used.

SIL buys them as he has a storage facility, I'll ask where he gets his and the sort of price he pays.

Only need something watertight to store about 50 bales of hay.

I paid about 800 pounds for a 20ft one and about 400 for a 10ft one from the local scrap metal dealer

Going off threads on here, you'd be better off buying a cheap banger of a horsebox that won't get through its MOT and parking that somewhere - would be a bit more mobile too, and less likely to get condensation in it..

I'm at work now which is at Britains largest container port. We sell them via PCS (port container services) and there is a huge banner with their number on but I'm stuck quay side all day so can't get over there! However as others said you won't get one for less than £1k, being metal suffer badly from condensation. Don't know where you are but SPS spares sell the Post office ex box bodies which are around 15' with plywood lining, lockable door etc for around £200 plus delivery, friend has several and uses them for hay as well as tack etc, far better and cheaper than a shipping container.

Lorry containers are so much cheaper. As someone said you will probably get a big one for around £400.

Yes you do, which is another advantage of the old lorry - that is technically mobile..

I've asked around and yes, we do need planning here for a shipping container. And with the condensation, and the 1k cost, I think I've ruled out one of those. Thanks again everyone, I had no idea about the cost, planning or condensation.

I will look into a lorry container then.

Sportyspots - I've googled SPS but not sure I've found the right company. Do you have the website address for the post office ones, please.
