I am searching for either plastic or wooden jump poles and wings. I don't want to spend a fortune. Is £22 the going rate for a single pole?????

We got some years ago from a local riding school. I got 8 BSJA wings and 12 poles - they were all broken and being thrown out, but we fixed them up and I have a full set now for £0

You can also get those plastic pole wrap things for putting over the plain poles to make them more colourful. (See http://www.derbyhouse.co.uk/prodshow.asp?id=1490&a=srch ).

When we were younger, me and my brother made a set of six show jumps from some timber my dad got for free. However, it did take us ages! We painted a 3 x 8 plywood sheet with three pigs on it - the ponies were terrified and it took some riding to get them over! On the other side, we did a wall. Then we did some fillers and a gate type thing. They lasted quite well but we left them out in the field all year round so rotted quite quickly!

That's a hard one, I found some traffic barriers in the hedge on a hack once, (once we got past them and made it home!) I went back and got them in the car.

Second hand ones are like gold dust, you did really well there jumpthemoon. I also have some aluminium barrels from the local pub.

You could try a timber merchant, for poles for you to paint? If they are wooden they weigh more of course and then when the horse clonks them it hurts a bit and they'r less likely to touch them another time! (You prob know that!)

Contact your local sawmills to see if they do treated machined 4in poles and paint them yourself or as above get plastic covers 10ft long is ok at home
Ask local tack shop--very often a local joiner makes wings but be sure they are bolted not nailed together

I found a nice set of wings, poles, fillers and cavaletti's on ebay and it looks like they have them on there pretty regularly - worth your while taking a look, I think it was about £180 for complete set, which i thought was great.

A local supplier advertises in our mag essex and charges £20 a set of wings and £5.50 a pole (wood). So might be worth looking locally around you?

those are really cheap.My hubby makes jump wings and can't make them for that,but they are really good quality and have removable feet although having said that he charges less than £10 more per pair.As for poles they are really expensive to buy unless you buy them direct from a timber merchants.

Go and have a look in Longacres (in between Botley and Durley), they sell poles etc, and I'm sure that not that expensive!

I bought some a couple of years ago from Thanet Showjumps in Kent (based in Biddenden!!) Bought a mixture of wood and plastic, painted wooden poles I think were £10 each, wooden painted upright wings were £25ish a pair and the staircase type wings were about £50 a pair. They have lasted really well.;
