The trainer who has helped me with Bert gave me a slip lead to use, its only rope but very soft and thin. It also has a whole bank of rubber disk stoppers which apparently you discard as they get loose. I love it because its so small it just fits nicely in any pocket when we are off road walking- It also has a really small unobtrusive seal on the handle/lead part. Almost like a bit of tape, this again adds to the un-bulkiness! Most I see seem to have a thick chunk of leather there and as a single stop.

Then following on from liking that I'd like a really smart thin rolled leather just normal lead with a clip for my other dog, again really small so I can scrunch it into my pocket out walking. I'm terrible for loosing leads! I know this one will be a lot more expensive, the first looked very cheap and basic but if bright purple! I'd love a toned down colour!

OH has just started making his own (I appreciate it’s not quite as you described). He bought all the components on line but last week I bought him 30 metres of the cord in Lidl for £5 so he can loose them to his hearts content without it costing much!

He has five dogs now so non-bulky leads are a necessity.

The one in the pic - Vaseline tin for size - is one of his prototypes 😁

Eassenjay was one that I found searching show leads, they look good.
I’ll look at the others suggested this evening, any excuse to shop ;)
@Spotherisk thats a great idea! Very clever! Love the toggle bit as presumably that won’t ever wear out unlike the disks!

You could get a lead with trigger clip to attach to his collar or harness, with an O ring on the handle. Doesn't need to go in a pocket. Put it over your shoulder and attach the trigger clip to the O ring and carry it like you would a crossbody bag.
