Where can I get an old fashioned saddle cloth? Years ago ( I am quite ancient) the ponies at the riding school used to have saddle clothes that were made of material like a cotton summer sheet with bias binding round it.......think tea towel type material. My saddle really fits and my saddler likes me to use it without anything underneath but I'm not keen on all the cleaning this involves but I can only find padded or quilted saddle clothes. Does anyone still make the old type?

Probably but I just thought that with all the emphasis on saddle fitting and backs these days that I couldn't be the only person in this position. Why do we all spend loads on saddle fitting then bung a padded quilt under the saddle and change how it fits?

What about using a baby pad? They are thinner than a regular saddle pad, and I have seen people use them under half pads, and saddle pads to keep them cleaner.

You want to search for Saddle Cloths not numnahs or pads I think.

Used frequently on racing yards and are simply cotton or towelling squares.

I have used both in the past.

You could try a racing supplier if you want to pay, or simply make your own.
