Where did all the Piebalds and Skewbalds go?

They seem to have all vanished and been replaced with "coloureds" - why is that?

If you call a piebald pony coloured, does it become more desirable, fashionable and worth more?
 
I have no idea. Sorry. I wouldn't mind having a patchy pony though

Randomly, horsemart has three search options:

Coloured
Piebald
Skewbald

Perhaps its for people who cant make up there mind if there horse is piebald or skewbald?

I often get confused: what colour would a red and while coloured be classed as?

and- what would a dark bay and white be classed as?
 
Well where I live there are no "coloureds"! There are also no piebalds OR skewbalds.

Registered Paints (APHAs) or P/B paints are what are available over here. Actually generally the coloured horses over here are called by their markings rather than as generic terms such as the ones above. They are tobianos, toveros, overos, sabinos etc etc.
 
I don't know, but the term 'coloured' irritates me - as does the term 'tri-coloured' - I've always called it bay and white, and therefore a skewbald.
 
What baffles me are people who insist on using the 'tobiano/overo' etc terminlogy over here in the UK, when both they/their horse/pony are as British as can be

I always say, like "theres a nice coloured pony over there"

When i think of a coloured pony, i think of a big heavy gypsy cob. But when i used piebald/skewbald i think of much finer breeds.

Because people are far more knowledgeable on genetics now. The coat pattern is their genetic make up and those who know about these things, use this correct terminology - it isnt' just reserved to us over here in North America.

Your quite right, no one seems to call them by piebald and skewbald anymore,even i rarely do now, but i always think in piebalds and skewbalds and tri-colours, as this is what i grew up saying

I get quite annoyed when someone says that pony I used to have was coloured, as I imagine a gypsey cob type which my pony was most definitly not. She was skewbald thank you very much

I refer to my cob as coloured...Officially he is a piebald but people get so confused about what a piebald/skewbald/tobiano blah, blah that its easier just to say coloured...
To call him a black and white cob is far too much of a mouthful...
So, coloured it is

I think its an age thing - I grew up calling them piebald/skewbald but find like some one else has said if I call Inca a piebald cob people seem to think i am apeaking Russian! If however I say a coloured cob that seems ok. Glad its not just me - had put it down to my advancing years... hehe!
 
No I've had him for about 2 years now, he was a little rogue when I brought him but must say he's turned out to be a little star. He's about 16'2, and has the most beautiful paces, also has a nice pop on him.
 
Skewbald.

Piebalds are black and white, every other colour with white is Skewbald (this includes, dun & white, lemon and white and any other fancy colour you would like to name).
 
Oh thankyou, yes she is mine. Im a very proud mummy even if she does my head in occasionally!

I personally think she has too much white but i like them with a little bit of white and more solid colour like my boy pictured above.
 
She is cracking, think they all do your head in some days don't they,my mare was a complete swine today!
I am hoping to pick up a 6month old either this winter or next, dependent on finances really, need something to bring on as my mare is getting older,bless her
I would like a piebald filly or a very nicely marked skewbald like her
