Just interested to know where you looked for horses when you were buying..I know personally i'm inclined to look on Horsemart, simply because its so simple & easy! Also a lot of people use it.. but how about you? :D

Well, we saw ours on a hack doing somersaults and were told he was looking for a rider...

Generally though, it's word of mouth, horsequest, free ads and PC website :)

i looked on every possible site and in tack shops, i eventually found my horse on horsequest.
alot of the time i just entered horses for sale into google and it came up with all the sites.

My first pony through word of mouth, my second through an advertisement board in local tack shop, and third on adhorse.. I pretty much decided on the pics and description he was coming home with me before viewing him..:o

one off horsemart and the other off preloved indirectly (contacted breeder and she said she had something more suitable). The other 2 off dealer websites.

Hmm none of mine were advertised! My ended up with my old mare as I'd gone to look at a section d, and found a TB instead who hadn't yet been advertised!

Current mare came to me as a loan project, and never left

Gorgeous Arab I lost a couple months ago - I found out about him through a friend of a friend, and he wasn't technically for sale, but the lady could see how much I loved him straight away and agreed to sell him to me (for dirt cheap to boot!!).

I am a great believer in fate when it comes to horses, and I struggle looking at adverts, as an owner can tell me any number of wondrous things about their horse, but if I like the horse, I like it. If I don't I don't. I have quite a strong instinct about my horses and it's either straight away or not at all. But I'm just awkward I think lol

One from Horsequest. One from word of mouth - phoned a breeder and she pointed me in the direction of one then bought another two from the breeder. Two from the Freeadds paper. One I went searching for something in particular so phoned up the stud and bought him over the phone. One from an add on Shetland-Pony.com from a pic and got her sent down from the SHetland Isles. One on the Fell Pony website. 3 I have brought home from work. One I emailed round trainers for, saw 3 before I took on one of them. And the rest are homebreds.

So from all over the place - litterally - Devon to Shetland Isles.

Daughter's 1st pony belongs to a dear friend, we still have him and we still keep him with her, hard to find another rider for him as there are no facilities and no other horses (except hers and now our mare), not that attractive to kids.

First horse (ex racer mare) wasn't advertised, my daughter phoned a dealer in South Wales about another horse, made an appt, drove over an hour there and that one was sold but here was this other one.... we really didn't do our homework on that one at all and really didn't have the experience for a horse like her.

Second horse was also from a dealer but a much more considered purchase, it was also fate because I saw him on Horsemart and send my daughter the link as did 2 of her other friends.

My chestnut wasn't advertised as I got her via a bloodstock agent. My grey was advertised on arabianlines and my bay was given to me by a friend. :)

didnt see her advertised though she was for sale - gone to look at a horse my daughter had been asked to ride/compete - saw this poor frightened stressed mare weaving in the back of a dark stable. Took one look at her eyes fell in love asked questions and the rest is history - best money I have ever spent :)

He wasnt advertised - I phoned a dealer and discussed with her what I was looking for and she picked out 2 of her horses for me to try out - I tried Arion and didnt bother trying the other one - I fell head over heels after the first canter :D

More people buying from dealers/through ringing up dealer-type people than i'd have thought :p perhaps i'll try this next time

Harley came via the Western Morning News, a daily westcountry paper which has a weekly horse section - but this was so long ago that we didn't really have internet, 1997!

Echo (now sold on) came via this forum!

Risky was word of mouth.

Tinner was from a dealer in Cornwall, found on the internet.

Crap i totally fail at posting from my phone lol. What i meant to say was i wouldnt go down the dealer route again as i know several people who bought from the same dealer who bought horses with issues and either sold them on or returned them. I think i was very lucky to be fair.

1st mare i bought from a dealer so wasnt advertised RIP
2nd mare H&H still got advert from 1989
3rd from Jamie Gray:mad:
4th i bred
5th from a friend RIP
6th horsemart
7th from a livery

Word of mouth for all of ours.

Grey pony was looking for a rider who whilst capable(ish) wanted showing the ropes
Dun pony needed a home or he was being PTS because he was horrible (not now though :) )
Bay pony came to us because his owner heard we were on the look out for something sort of like him and we fell in love!

Pharaoh was from a dodgy dealer. We drove past the yard every day and eventually we walked down and the dealer happened to be in the field at the time.
Misty was given to us by a friend as unfortunately she could no longer afford to keep him, especially with his laminitis meaning he needs a lot of management.
The two I am riding came off preloved and due to the type of horse I want next, it will probably come via word of mouth.
:)
