Hi everyone,
So it's been a few weeks since i lost my beloved horse & after having a break & then a look round i found a new youngster, we decided to buy him & i was so excited! ... But basically to cut the long story short the deal fell through & i was left heartbroken again :(
I feel like giving up but i just cannot physically bring myself to give up horses, life would never be the same.
I don't know where to go from here now with the horses...
Ideally i'd like to bring on a rescue, i've got the time, experience & money, but a friend has offered me her filly (pampered sports horse!) & taking her seems like the sensible option to everyone, it just doesn't feel quite right though, she doesn't feel like the one for me. I've not seen her in the flesh but seen a photo. Do you think i should go & see her first or pursue this drem of a rescue/project? I know what i want but what does everyone else think?

tbh, I'd give yourself much more time. Taking on a rescue will take a while to sort out, but I think that would be a lovely option (giving something back), so I'd take steps in that direction. You must do what feels right for you. sm xx

Thanks. I think a rescue or similar is the way to go. I just feel like possibly i'm being ridiculous in not taking the easy option out! However i do believe hard work makes a pony so much more worthwhile.

What sort of experience do you have? What do you aim to do with your horse eventually? Rescues can be very challenging, if you haven't dealt with them before can you get some backup from someone who has?

You could perhaps go and see the filly, how about that is it the Darley? racehorse rehoming scheme thing i quite fancied taking on one from their. best of luck :) x

The thing with rescues is, that you have to be prepared for the worst. They are such an unknown quantity that you have to have a Plan B, the plan that comes into action if they never return to full fitness, or overcome their behaviour problems. Take it from me, I've been there. I have a "project" that came for 6 months and is still with me 4 years later. Bless him.

Go and see the filly, you'll either click or you wont. If you don't find her to be 'the one' after seeing her for real, pursue the rescue idea. :)
