So i am planning to affiliate my horse Im wanting to do crosscountry and showjump. Do I have to register with both in order to do certain competitionso or if I register the one will it cover everything I want to do? TIA

if you want to do affiliated showjumping and affiliated eventing then you need to register with both BE and BS

Why not try unaffiliated first? There are lots of affiliated venues which also run unaffiliated events as well. You can try your hand and see what you want to focus on without the expense of affiliation.

You can't just do cross country affiliated - you will need to register with British Eventing, and do one-day-events, which include dressage, showjumping and cross country

Echo this - I'm afraid there is no such thing as affiliated cross-country, if you want to do cross country then that comes as part of eventing where you do dressage, cross country and showjumping. The higher levels are run over 3 days (called 3 day events) where day 1 is dressage, day 2 is XC and day 3 is showjumping. Lower levels are run over 1 day (called one day events) and these start with dressage, followed by showjumping and finally XC all in the one day. If you want to do an affiliated one day event then you need to register with British Eventing (google them and you'll find their website).
If however you really dont want to do any dressage then you'll only be able to do showjumping affiliated with British Showjumping.
You can hire cross country courses at many venues so if you want to do a bit of XC for fun without having to do the dressage then its worth searching for local XC courses that offer their fences/course for hire.
Equally if you want to do a one day event but are not sure how the dressage phase will go, and dont want to fork out for BE membership then many venues run unaffiliated one day events which will be a good way for you to find out if you enjoy it and want to affiliate before you spend the money.
