Where do I stand - returning a rug that doesn't fit!

Hi
I bought a rug in Ronbisons store two weeks ago. I tried it on my veteran thoroughbred and it fitted fine. However, after a night in the rug it slips right over and does not do the job and stay in place. Obviously, because he has worn it for a night it is a little hairy and muddy. Because the rug has been sold but slips and does not do the job it is ment to do (due to the slipping), have I got any right to return it despite it being slightly worn?

It is this seasons summer turnout - their own brand.
Thanks.

If it is not fit for the job in its description, could you return it for being faulty? I assume your horse has no other history of rug slippage?

You could try; but I don't think legally you have any recourse unless the rug is actually defective in some way. They might exchange it as a good will gesture, but I'm not sure another one would help much. (Plus - did you but it as a sale item? They have a no returns policy on those.)

If you search the forums for Requisite you'll find the comments a mixed bag. I do have one which I bought second hand from another livery but I wouldn't personally buy Reqisite rugs at all as the sizing is a bit variable and the quality not that great. Basically you tend to get what you pay for at that end of the market. (Don't get me wrong I won't but the really expensive ones either!)

It might be worth trying additional leg straps (I presume this is a stable rug without them?) or one of those wide band surcingles to see if you can hold it more stable. Failing that... ebay?

it would have to be completely clean to return it, the rug cos recommend you try it with a sheet underneath. I guess you could have it cleaned but that might be uneconomic. I dont think you can return it if not in as new condition, the fact it happens to slip on your horses shape doesnt make it not fit for purpose, all horses are different shapes and the rugs have to be made to one design or another. If it were a made to measure rug then that would be different. I would eBay it and get another rug.

i'm not sure it comes under not fit for purpose if it simply doesn't fit- particularly as your horse has worn it and got it dirty.

i would echo the above poster, ebay it and buy another
