my fields have a bit of wood in them and it is home to 5 roe deer that have bred over the summer. (don't know where they have come from) there has been reports of a man going down and trying to poach them:mad::mad::mad::mad:. where do i stand with him poaching on my land and who do i contact? i am also worried that he might mistake on of my horses for the deer and shoot them instead. :(

ETS: i don't want him to shoot the deer either

Call the police and ask them what to do - I'm fairly sure that the firearms laws don't allow people to have a pop as and when they choose!

I used to be at a place next to woods & with healthy deer population. A few were culled each year by shooting. Special platforms were installed for the gunmen, very high up with steps. The idea was that if they missed their shot the bullet from their high power rifles ended up in the ground very close by so there was very little chance of getting anything else by accident. A guy going & taking pot shots sounds very risky. Unlikely they will be giving your horses much thought when they shoot. Serious issue someone trespassing on your land & letting off a firearm, especially with loose stock about.

well theres only 5 deer there. and they were right up by the stables where my horses normally are saturday morning. so if he does try to take pot shots then theres quite a high risk of him getting one of the neddys :( police it shall be then

Contact the police and the firearms department- unless this guy has the shooting rights or direct permission than this sounds illegal, and the police can find this out.

And the idea of a high chair is mainly so that the stalker is above the deer and can see farther, whilst having the best view of a clear area. Also to stop the bullet as has been said, BUT I'm sorry- if a stalker misses, he shouldn't be stalking, end of.

Anyone on your land with a gun and no permission from you as landowner is in serious breach of his license and committing a serious firearms offence, definitely speak to the police about an armed man/poacher on your land.
