I'm intending to overseed some of our paddocks in Spring, and looking at the cost of seed online it seems very expensive!!

Where do you buy your seed?

And what mixture do you use?

And for overseeding, how much per acre?

Thanks!

Cotswold seed I think it's called is where we got ours. I spent ages on the phone discussing what we had already, what my horses needs were, what the land was like etc and they were very helpful. I can't remember how much but we did 11.5 acres and were very pleased with the results.

I second cotswold seeds as they sell by the kilo, rather than by the acre. We bought some to do the poached areas and didnt need an acre's worth. Have spent hours and hours looking online and these are also one of the cheapest.

Yes Cotswold Seeds and Boston Seeds are the cheapest I've found so far...and I've been saving hay seeds for months! Although I think the hay is predominantly ryegrass, and I'd like to have a good mix of different grasses and herbs so will mix these in with the hay seeds.

Any recommendations on how much to use/acre? I think I'm going to hire one of those push along fertiliser/seed broadcast spreaders - some of the fields are OK, just need seeding on the bare patches, but a couple which were only seeded a couple of years ago are pretty sparse so will need more attention!
