I'm after another project horse after my current on is on "rehab" for various issues and I'd like to get out riding again.

I've looked on all the usual websites (preloved, freeads, horsemart etc..) and can only seem to find expensive projects, if that makes sense!

I don't mind ex-racers one bit, but even they seem to be selling around the 1k mare in my area.

There is a facebook group called project horses and also a sister group called project rescue, then all the local groups. There will be loads of ads on there if you haven't seen the groups before!

You could try any local horse auctions or dealers. At the "lower" end auctions you can pick up horses cheap. 4 years olds just backed are usually a safe bet because they've usually not done enough to have sustained any injuries or got into long term bad habits, but are old enough to get on with training them straight away and put some value on them. At auctions or dealers I tend to steer clear of anything over 5 years.

I was looking this time last year and couldn't find anything that constituted a bargain to be honest. Word of mouth is your best bet... In the end I went to Germany and found a pony out there, not exactly a bargain but value for money compared to what was here, as I really wanted something with dressage potential but green or quirky didn't bother me. Only problem is he's turned out too nice to want to part with!!

There's been more than one thread on the intelligent horsemanship (IHDG) website this last week or 2 with people trying to rehome some horses.
