Where do you go to buy a horse/ponies....

Just wondering how/where people choose to buy their horses/ponies. The dealer post sparked this question.

Most of mine come direct from the breeder, however I do go to bloodstock sales and speak to the breeders and then make my choice.

Some of mine came from good old newspaper adverts and some came from Internet adverts.

A couple were given to me and some had the owners call me up asking if I wanted their horses.

I have bought a few horses privately but most have come direct from their breeder

Bought Shetland from local ad paper, NF came from local riding school, and our Welshie was free from my sister-in-law!

I have brought several from auctions and never yet had a bad one.I have also brought through friends,adverts,word of mouth and used horse swap.

I heard about Castle via word of mouth, and I bought him from a private seller. Ali was advertised online and I bought him from a private seller as well.

Lots of different ways for me! One was found online, three by word of mouth, one from a dealer, rest from ads in H&H.

I usually know of a stallion which I particularly like when I'm looking so will buy a youngster from the stud direct - only way I can afford to get the quality I like!

Usually via private adverts online. Latest one someone offered me (as they knew I had been interested in her before).

I got mine direct from the stud as I wanted a youngster this time. Otherwise I think I would go to a reputable dealer.

In the last 5 years - 3 from auctions (2 from Gorsebridge, 1 fron Doncaster), 1 home-bred.

I didn't vote for any other the other options - I have certainly looked at adverts, spoken to dealers and tried the word-of-mouth thing. Never found anything remotely suitable that way though.
