I have started keeping my tack in the house and it seems to be much better for it, rather than leaving it in the tack room which can be damp and cold even with a small heater on. I would often go and get my saddle after a week and find it covered in mould which not pleasant. Anybody else against the tack room for storing tack?

At home always, alot safer and as you say keeps better. Unless your tack is in a brick building with appropiate locks your tack would not be insured.

I used to be on a very good livery yard that had heaters and separate heated rug drying rooms for wet boots, numnahs etc. It was also very secure. Now having them at home all the tack is in the spare room - except smelly numnahs - they get left in the garage. :)

Everyday stuff is in the garage on its own rack on the wall as the garage has boiler in it & tack is fine if kept in there.
Overflow of past used tack (inc 4 pony saddles) is kept on a free standing rack in the spare bedroom & a box of bits/spares etc is in the cupboard over the stairs.....

Heck, reading that back to myself, I think I need to do a bit of a clear out! :o

many people seem to keep their schooling tack which is worn in the tack room and good competition tack at home this sounds like a good idea

I keep all mine in a pine dresser/wardrobe kinda thing, but that's all I'm going to say on the matter, discussing where you keep your tack on the net is a bit dicy, you never know who is reading and who knows you, even if you don't know them.

saddle in the house - hat/bridle etc in the boot....

saddle is worth less than the hat/bridle in my car but would be a bummer to replace lol!

:)

For some reason my mother thinks it's odd to have bridles handing from the ends on the curtain rods in the dining room. Seems perfectly normal to me. Ditto saddles on the spare room bed.

Really pleased to note I am not the only woman in the world who has a saddle in her wardrobe. We dont keep anything at our yard except feed and first aid kit. We have his and hers sheds at home, mine has tugs and stuff, his has junk:) but saddle and bridle are on free standing rack at the bottom of built in wardrobe in spare bedroom.

The one at work, her tack lives in the livery tack room, which is secure and the tack doesnt seem to go mouldy.
The one at the livery yard nearer home, her tack lives in our tack shed at the farm.
Show tack lives in my bedroom :P

I have taken over the airing cupboard at home - that is now my tack room! Also keep some stuff in the car if I'm lazy.

I would never leave it in the tack room because it's too appealing for thieves and also probably quite easy with the right tools. Also you can never be 100% sure that other people lock up properly / leave it open when they go for a ride etc.

I have a little tack room built into my utillity room but I find it such a pain to keep lugging the saddle to the yard every day. Unfortunately my yard isn't at all secure.

My daughter has taken over the cupboard under the stairs but there is also other stuff in her room and yes, the odd bridle hooked over the end of the curtain rail in the dining room! :D

am i going to be shot down for saying yes, i do keep my tack in my tack room!?
WOODEN STABLES??
but dunno if this makes a difference, .... in a metal locker screwed down into the ground.. :o
my mum wouldnt allow it in the house.. she was like "we have paid for stables.. thats where all the horses stuff is kept"
fair enough
and... it doesnt seem to go mouldy or get damp
... after a wet days hunting i bring the saddle in to the housse tho to dry :D
