Where do you school yours?

Idea taken from another forum, where do you school yours?
Field? School?
some people have diff views and dont agree doing it in their own fields, I break mine in in the field with other ponies in, if the ponies are in the area I school, I school around them

I have used the sand school round the corner 3 times, running up to my dressage test, as needed markers

But it has never affected my horses' performance schooling in their own field, I think it does them good

Whats your opinion?
I thought it was interesting to read peoples diff views

I school in our school.... then if we need to do fitness training we will either go to the nearest gallops or use the hill in our 3rd field if the ground is okay.

Mainly out hacking, although in the summer theres a nice field on top of the hill which is flat and nice, but this is only used once a month or so. Although i can borrow the school at work just up the road , but this is rarely done.
I think it doesn't matter where you school really as long as you feel your horse works well for you i dont think it matters wherether it be in a school or in a field. However every once in a while it is nice to actually have markers and jumps that are colourful!
 
in the school AND out hacking, hacking isn't a doss for my horses! Obviosuly not as intense as in the school but we still manage to get a bit of leg yielding and other bits into it. Im sure passers by think either me or my horse is drunk, wandering from one side of the lane to the other!
 
currently we don't have an arena so in the field.

however, looking to move yard so we do have an arena to use.

with the amount of rain we have had it just isn't safe to be cantering small circles/ figures, let alone jumping on this ground.

i will still use fields to school in when there is better ground though as my lot are eventers and need to learn how to travel across uneven ground, up/down hill etc.
 
In the field most of the time, although we have got a friend's arena we can borrow as well. Our field isn't even flat but I suppose that helps with the pony's balance and she is never phased by lumpy bumpy grass dressage arenas when she competing! Only problem is when is really wet like now, and there is only one little strip that is dry enough to use!
 
I use our rubber/sand school but also do a bit while hacking. In the summer we can ride in the fields and may do that next year!
 
In the summer I school in my 1 acre "overflow" paddock, which is grassy and flat, or in the one of the two regular grazing paddocks which is currently being rested (I rent my own place and have no proper school).

However, we're on clay, so this time of year - especially when it's been as wet as it has been - the clay gets absolutely sodden and it's not safe to even do walk work on it (and also I don't want the ground all torn up and uneven for when it dries out). So in winter, it's hacking out only for me - and that's when I do my schooling.

We're on heavy clay, too. It would be a nightmare if we had to try and school on it in winter, because the mud gets knee deep, and has a knack for ripping shoes off (horse and human)!

Luckily we have an arena, although that ices over sometimes in winter because it's woodchip.

We mainly use hacking for fitness work as there's only one hacking route round us, which isn't particularly good- ground's not great, and there's not a lot of space to open them up.
