Where do you store all your rugs/bits and bobs?

I've always been on livery yards with tack-rooms/rug-rooms or designated storage areas. I'm now on a private livery yard with the family that own it and one livery. I have a million and one rugs currently sat in a spare stable along with a stupid amount of saddlecloths, buckets, veterinary kits, haynets and other miscellanea. There's no tack-room here but there is a tea-room that I can keep a box in (should I find one that I can a) afford and b) fit everything into).

Does anyone have affordable storage ideas? I can't keep anything at home as there's no room!

I use to use an old freezer. It kept the mice out. Try a plastic dust bin, cheap enough to buy and work out how much equipment you need and get rid of the rest. I had a big burn up the other day and burned several rugs that the cat had peed on.

We keep everything in a spare stable (one that is purley for storage) in the plastic garden sheds you can get from b&q.

About £100 but keep mice etc out

I was just going to suggest a small shed - if the YO doesn't mind you buying one!! It would be small enought to fit alongside your stable though so would be unobtrusive! Plus, you could put shelving etc inside it and be nice and organised in your own space :)

I have a large green storage box (from B&Q I think) which is stuffed, and I also keep a few buckets and things on top. I'm also on a private yard so try not to take up too much space. Luckily YO has a big rug rail in the spare stable which I can use too. If you don't use all your rugs then how about selling them and making yourself a bit of cash and some spare room?!

I have 2 of the biggest storage boxes that ikea do. They were about £15 each. I also have a set of plastic garage shelves from B & Q which were £25. On each shelf I have 1 council recycling box with a plastic cover (4 in total - my old house had communal bin storage and when the bin men came to replace our recycling boxes for the 'new' design they let me keep some of the old ones they were taking away!) ;) x

I saw a thread about those hoover space saver bags, not tried them for rugs but the idea sounds good, you could then keep them in the loft at home (no dirt can get in so I assume therefore no horse hair can get out!!! )

Thanks all - all the equipment is in regular use except my travelling gear which can come home and go into the tool cupboard. Filing cabinets is a good idea as I've actually got one spare at home but i'm not sure my rugs would fit into them (big bulky turnouts even when squeezed into their plastic bag!).

I have rug bags that store 4 t/os each plus a small trunk and a dustbin. I asked on here about vacuum storage bags last week and got mostly positive replies.
