I've always got half an eye out for a 14 hh ish rough diamond youngster. I look on all the usual websites (Horsemart, horsequest, coloured contacts, Dragondriving, Horsegossip). Not after HOYS potential but just something sturdy and unproduced. Any other thoughts on where to look?

If you come up here (North Yorks/County Durham) you will drive past fields of hundreds of the poor things. So bloomin sad.

I found Shy while walking our dogs along a bridleway - he was in the field with some mates, I saw him, and that was it ! We had to go round the nearest town tracking down the owner.

Good luck :)

Bought Shadow at 17 months from a person advertising him in a free paper.. he was bought at auction by person at 6 months and they'd gelded him and brought him on, then decided they didn't have enough time, hence I bought him..
Real sweetie he was too :)
I paid £600 for him, and he was worth every penny :D

I'm in Cheshire and have done my share of trawling the uk looking at horses, so whilst it does limit me somewhat, I'd rather stay local. <wants the earth, not prepared to compromise!>

All work one's are 3 this year....

But are in Wiltshire...though can deliver fine.

If temperament and all round 'naturally nice person' *whisper'Munroe'ismyfavouritewhisper*

;)

Got mine by mistake , paid very little for 3 ponies, sold two one and kept one.... If you want a cheapie then bromgrove horse sales or stoneleigh for a coloured. Otherwise.. Local ads/ preloved etc?

Have a look at TGCA Facebook ( maybe closed group not sure!)

Another here with a field full next to ours in leicestershire. I think the man who owns them advertises them on dragon driving. Some of them look quite nice. All are coloured and hairy :) not in bad condition seeing how many times they've been flooded out in the past few months.

Haha, but do not worry - the right horse always finds the right owner...put some feelers out, and don't be afraid to ask the gypsy community for advice, as that's where the diamonds are often to be found.

Another thought - Christmas Sparkles also always has amazing cobs around her, tho I'm not sure where she is ? Might be worth a pm.

BLIMEY !! Christmas Sparkles has crossed posts with mine, lol. xx

Auctions/sales. But make sure you go with someone experienced buying at low end sales.

I do occasionally have a cast round Beeston and know what I'm looking for (apart from recently getting stung buying an in foal mare but we shall quickly brush over that...not from Beeston I might add).

These are the pics from the day we found Shy out dog walking ;

A very happy day, i can tell you ! :)

Ireland ;) and they aren't normally advertised and sold by word of mouth although I saw a cracker cob type for sale on done deal standing around 14h - looked a nice type and one I would have gone to look at!

I bought my very laid back cob from a gypsy that was advertising on preloved, she was 2.5 at the time now 3.5 and a great little horse. The best buy i have done for a long time, the other good cob i bought was years ago from a gypsy, had her for years until i lost her.

Have a look in the back of horse and rider.....sister has seen two nice ones.....a 14hh reg fell gelding 4yrs
And a 13:3 5year cob gelding.....£550 for that.

It's funny, but I knew straight away the one I wanted - and he knew too - he came up and almost kissed our lab Stanley to make friends - they became the best of friends till Stan's death this summer, and Shy still insists on carrying sticks in his mouth while we're hacking to pretend he's a dog :o

Our latest find was a Dragon driving special, came down south to dealer via sales at Co Durham. Going to be a hairy tank :) Stank, came with creeping chums and wormy but a darling now.

There's 'Eagle's cobs' - think they're in Yorkshire maybe - they have a page on Facebook. They have cheap young cobs and currently have a 19month skewbald to make 14.3, really chunky little tank! He's unhandled. £350 if memory serves. He really caught my eye as he was so chunky and well-marked. Worth a look but he may have been snapped up by now. Eagles Cobs are very good for young cobs if you're prepared to put the work in bringing them on. This one wouldn't be suitable for a novice as it was unhandled - can't recall what sex it is, perhaps a colt...
