Where d'you keep your horse's passport?

Following on from the Trading Standards visit thread.
Where do you keep your horse's passport, if on a livery yard, for example?
Mine are in a box in the house which we take to PC Rallies and Shows, with things like a mini first aid kit, membership cards, spare stirrup pings, hairnets and hairbands, polos and arnica tablets (!) - so hopefully we don't forget them for shows etc, but we remember to keep them safe between times.
Just thinking keeping them too close to hand could be dangerous if thieves are about.
(I know it won't stop them nicking your horse, but worse if they get his passport too)

I keep them safely locked away. I would not be happy with it being in someone elses possession, unless it was at competition livery.

She doesn't travel (retired) so rarely need it. I just spend a long time looking for it when I do...

Mine is locked in the filing cabinet and keys are with me at all times. I definitely wouldn't keep it at the stables, just in case. Plus I'd probably lose it behind a hay bale

Mine is at home in the home file. However I might not be able to produce it within 3 hours of a request if they turned up at the yard as we live 30 miles from the yard and I don't drive.

Mine are at home, too. They might actually be safer with the YO since I seem to loose everyting around here, but like the rest of you - I'd not be happy having them out of my personal keeping.

I keep mine in my tow vehicle - I compete a lot and although no-one has ever asked to see it at a show, I live in fear of being stopped and asked to produce it.

Unfortunately this means that when my car was stolen, my horse's passport was also stolen, and I was without one for a month or so while arranging a duplicate.

I hate passports, I think they are a stupid idea, I have not benefitted from having one, neither has my horse. And there are too many grey areas - my mare is going out on trial or possibly lease - so legally they should get the passport, but it is my main proof of ownership so I am not giving them it.

Both of mine are in livery so the YO needs access.

For my mare I keep mine hidden in the lorry. We are out most weekends so this makes sure that it is never forgotton. The YO knows where it is hidden.

For my youngster it is kept on the yard but I am thinking after these emails I might make it a bit more secure.

Does everyone remember to take them to shows and other things? I keep mine at home and I don't think I have ever remembered it as I'm always in such a rush whenever I'm going anywhere. Do they give you 3 hours to produce it?

In my lorry, luckily my horse has two passports so if it got nicked I would be OK. The 2nd one is a FEI passport which a trading standards persons wouldn't have a clue what it was - but it has passport written on it so they would be happy.

We have been stopped on the side of the road and asked to show them.

In my house - in a drawer. My friend left her 2 horses passports in her lorry & it caught fire in the middle of the night. Was completely burnt out!! One is RID & has green Irish passport. Will cost a fortune to replace them (and all the other stuff)

All mine bar two are here at the house. The stallions is away at the moment in Germany being updated. One mares is with the stud owner.

Mine are at the yard with the yard owners, they travel with them to shows etc.. so as the passport has to travel with the horse it is best that they have them.

All passports, microchip certificates, insurance stuff etc are in a ring binder and kept with all my "official" bits of paper.

in my dressage folder as I'm nearly always doing a dressage test when I'm going out (be it part of a ODE) so that way I don't forget it

Mine are only took with us in the lorry if going to a stay away show.

At home they are kept in the house and the two that are on competition livery have theirs kept there

Mine are in the wagon inside the locked cab, I also have photocopies in the house and the car we use for towing. In case we forget to swap them over, although that has yet to happen.

Mine are at the yards (horses are at two different yards) and both yards have all the passports for their horses. Have (so far) always managed to remember to get it to take to competitions. Wouldn't want it not to be available if the yards had an inspection.

I keep it at home. Livery yard haven't asked for it and if I'm honest I wouldn't want them to have, Not that I don't trust them but she's my horse and the passport belongs to the owner.
