Need to buy Pink horse a new jump saddle as she has out grown her current Stubben that I bought last year. Now, when I got it I was literally spoilt for choice in brand and style and found exactly the one I wanted, in exactly the right colour and size at a great price. This time however I am stuggling to find anything that even ticks one box, nevermind all of them!

So, my question is this - are people hanging onto saddles for a reason? Is the market just that slow at the moment? Or is there somewhere new that everyone is advertising saddles on that I don't know about? Have searched Ebay, HQ, Saddles Direct etc but nothing of any use and I'm crying at the thought of having nothing but my dressage saddle to ride in... gah! :)

Good question!

I need a new saddle for my boy and really don't know where to go. I don't really trust my local saddlers and they don't stock anything I like anyway. I keep looking on ebay too but rarely see something I like and I don't think I want to risk buying something without being able to try first. :(

Might be worth putting up a wanted advert.
I have loads of second hand saddles for sale but have just given up on advertising them as there seems to be no demand out there!

I asked the same question of the saddler yesterday when she came to fit my youngster for a saddle. She could provide a second hand GP but not a second hand jump saddle, that was before we even got on to make or colour. She said that everyone, at least locally, now wants a jump saddle. He is now having a new jump saddle which she promises will grow with him; it better!

From people I know saddlers aren't giving very good prices on 2nd hand saddles at the moment, including part ex and therefore people are hanging onto them until things pick up. One friend bought 2 saddles from a very well known saddler, 6 months - 1 year later and the part ex offered on them (both new at purchase and very little use as youngsters growing) was less than a third of the new price she paid.
Try putting a wanted ad out

I do think the demand was low and people stopped advertising them, I have a Barnsby 17.5" W GP saddle that was only used for 4 months from new. Only got stupid offers so didn't bother any further.

Interesting. I've got two to sell, but they are working hunter and dressage saddles. Both in beautiful condition. One was used 5 times and its immaculate.

Hope you find one soon. I think isnt there a website called Saddles Direct? I know I looked on there to find out how to cost my two saddles out. Sorry, not selling a jumping saddle, so cant help you.

the market has totally bummed out for selling saddles, I have two to sell but I am selling them when the market picks up, and I am happy to sell them for a fair price but am not prepared to give them away............

....so I will just wait until things are better for selling
