Seriously shocked at the lack of horses for sale. I know it's the wrong time of year etc etc but there really is nothing!?!

Also why is it that when there is no way you can buy, you see loads of stunning horses, and when you might be in with a shot, there is absoloutely nothing?

Rant over.

Horseless people, how do you cope

I think there's a lot of people who've decided not to spend their money advertising at the mo, as the market is so bad. I bet there'll be a rush come spring.

Pointless advertising in this weather.

Even if you have the facilities (ie indoor school) why would potential buyers risk life and limb travelling.

As above - there will be loads on the market come spring

Psst, have you seen the weather?! People wont spend £50+ on advertising when their school is unusable.
We found a nice looking horse that we phoned up about and they said they just cant have anyone come to view him atm as their school is frozen solid!

What are you looking for - how about you doing a wanted ad. Thats how I found my horse who hadn't been advertised.

Well yes BQ, I suppose that is sensible

I've had 3 exams today, so am in thick mode clearly

How was yours btw?

And Lefox- well I don't actually know yet either

But hopefully 16.1-17.1hh, rising 4-6yo, not sure budget yet, possibly under 3k. With potential to be a low level eventer. Oh and preferably a mare, but wouldn't rule out a gelding.

When the price will rocket too yes?

I'm rather hoping that the volume of horses means it will still be a buyers market!

But I may be being optimistic!

Haha yes, dream on perhaps

And I think I'm looking for the impossible anyway, just to make it even more fun

BroadfordQueen - when did you sell your mare? I remeber you posting not to long ago about why she had not sold and I though she looked lovely.

I think the vast majority of horse owners are sharing your riderless fate at the moment - at the moment all I can do is groom my horse - no point in fluffing, can't wash him, no tack to clean and nothing to work for..

My pony is for sale, but there's not point spending money advertising him now because I can't show him to anyone as the arena is frozen, the roads are frozen and if we ride on the grass he gets 'stilts' in his shoes.

I am going to advertise him at the end of Jan - unless you want to pm me if you're interested?

"pony" makes me think he will be too small sadly. If he is over 16.1hh pm me

luci07- it isn't just about the riding, it's everything. Grooming feeding, skipping out, taking photos everything!

attheponies- I look on adhorse, horsemart, horsedeals, horsequest and horseandhound. Though mainly horsemart. If horse is over 16.1hh and between 4 and 6yo, pm me

Generally, advertising on websites goes quiet over Christmas, and doesn't pick up until mid January. Now of course, the weather is an added barrier. People are struggling to get to their own yards, let alone visit other peoples, and testing facilities would be limited.

I have to reduce my numbers of shetland ponies (plus one NF!), due to an injury, and am waiting for the weather to clear, and the snow to go, before advertising them. At the moment, no one could get to my yard to visit - we are on the top of a hill, and only our landies are getting up & down safely! And even if people could visit, I doubt many buyers will be seriously considering adding to their pony numbers in this weather!

Roll on the thaw!
