Hi All,
I have a rising 2yo out of a nice chestnut mare called Sharla (full name Sharla's Hope). I know she was by king of diamonds out of a TB dam and bred in Ireland as a potential eventwr, but at 6 months the stud decided she was going to be good enough and she was left in a field for someone. That was years ago and an acquaintance of mine picked her up and has done all sorts with her, but after the foal I now have, she sold the mare (A beautiful
burnt chestnut colour), before I knew anything about it and I am desperate to trace her, as I would like to take a hair sample, so that i can DNA prove the lineage of my filly & of course her Dam.
This would under normal circumstances not be too much of an issue, as I could contact the studbook she's in, but the chap 'Gary' who bought Sharla, was from the Leeds area, has never updated her ownership papers, so unless I can find Sharla, I am stuck with a filly who's back breeding I know verbally, but cannot prove! The other problem with her not being fully lineaged is that with nothing behind her, I had to register her with the AHS, as her sire is a part bred arab, which is fine had I wanted to show her, but she is her mothers daughter and I think shows a great deal of potential to event. Can anyone out there help me, as the lady I got her from would help if she could, but her hubby has tidied up and lost the chaps details, meaning I'm seemingly completely stuck. Your help, insight and wisdom would really be most gratefully received, as I don't know what else to do to get this sorted, so I can only apologise for burdening you with my problems.
Better still, if you know where Sharla is, please could you let me know, so that I can hopefully seek her owners help, at my cost.
My sincere thanks to you all [:)]

Hi, yes she is [:)]. Sharla had actually had another foal, but she was never registered on the sporthorse database!

To begin with, there is no need for her pedigree/dna if you want to register her for eventing. As long as she has a passport and is chipped herself, that is enough for BE. As she has a passport, that can easily be overstamped by any society you wish to show/event with.
I've looked for Sharla's Hope on HSI database and it's not known, are you sure she was registered with them? Does the person who owned her remember what passport she had, do they not have any details for her at all on record, surely they must know what was in that passport? Perhaps I'm anal but I can remember every registered name and who they were registered with of all the horses that have been through my hands even if I can't remember their full breeding. If you have a society she was passported with, you have a chance of finding out more.

Sharla's Hope was her Dam, but as she was rejected as a baby, a as not suitable for eventing, she was just put on a green standard passport, with her lineage not recorded, but the lady that bought her was told she was by King of Diamonds, out of a TB mare. Why her breeding wasn't recorded when she was shipped from Ireland, heaven only knows. The lady that bought her as a weanling had no option but to just get her a regular passport.
My filly is really smart and I would eventually like to breed from her, once her career is finished, but without her back breeding it's going to be a nightmare. If I could just find Sharla then I can take some tail hairs and prove the back breeding, which the Irish sports horse board have said they will try & do, given we know the damsire.
I hope this makes some sense?

Sorry, again it's a no, it won't be a nightmare, why should it be? You know her breeding and you know her so know what should suit her. As long as you get a covering certificate you will be able to register the foal either with the sire's society or the AHS whichever you choose, you should have a fair few options which will get your new foal on the path to recognized breeding. It's not many years ago that most horses, unless thoroughbreds, would be registered as unknown and in the case of broodmares, with each generation, the breeding becomes recognized. You can also help by getting your mare graded; if 15.2 or under you have the option of the SPSS as well as SHBGB, they both will grade mares of no recorded breeding into a section of their stud books and it will all help. All is not lost if you can't find that dam, remember that.

Thank you so much Slave2Magic, I so hope you can find her! I don't know Gary's surname, but I will ask again and if I can get it, I will pm you with it :). Sincerest regards
