Want to know if I can tow a single 401 with 2l mondeo estate (with L-plates and supervised by a person who can tow)
I do not have my ''towing test'' but have been driving for 15 years.

I am not a expert as i chose to get a box rather then tow which scares the hell out of me. Not the towing, the hitching up.......I think it's all the arguments my parents used to have as they hitched up the old caravan that did it.
If i remember right in order to tow you need the correct kerb weight. The car must weigh a certain amount so that the trailer will not tip you over.
You do not need to do a towing test if you have granpa rights. that shows up as a D1 on your liecence i think

D1 is the minibus entitlement . . . - I've been trying to get that done for years :(

I'd love a box (lorry type) - would make my life complete :D - sad, eh?!

Hitching isn't difficult. It's the reversing that gets me. You should have seen me trying to turn round in Rossdales' (massive) car park yesterday :o Good job the horse is patient. Trailer is now abandoned on the yard waiting for OH to come and park it. Else I'm just going to push it back by hand!!

B+E is the entitlement you need on your license to tow for the record :)

You can tow ANY B+E combination under correct supervision
Supervising driver to be age 21+, held B+E for 3+ years, correct insurance for a learner with L plates on front of vehicle and rear of trailer

HB401
unladen 770
MAM 1600

Mondeo estate - best figures I could find
KERB 1470 so unladen probably 1500 ish
GVW 2065
Towing capacity 1800+

Provided I have the Mondeo figures correct - really need more info on that model you have...... then ....
Get that 401 downplated to 1400 by IFOR Williams (cost £30 I think) and it will then conform to B licence towing (no supervising driver req) but will only then take a payload of 630 - do you need to load the trailer with more than 630?
