Where is this "autumn flush" I hear tell of?

My son’s pony has just shot up a whole inch behind (she is 6). She was mighty miffed when I dropped the height last week at her obligatory ‘keep the pony happy and not murderous’ jumping session - but she needs to give herself time to catch up!
 
I've spent pretty much the entire summer freaking that the ground won't recover in time cause of the lack of rain - walked out to get the boys this morning and the part of the field that I was resting now looks like it was never grazed.....and the part of the field they're currently in the grass seems to be multiplying at a speed unknown! The parts that I'm saving for winter grazing, I'm debating about halving them to what I was originally planning as the grass there is so tall - the boys stand looking at it longingly, until they realise they have the exact same stuff right in front of them and then they munch happily x

Interestingly enough - they are still inhaling their haynets (leaving a small amount by the end of the day when I get to them) and demolishing their feeds, despite the amount of grass in their field. I'm beginning to think that I have two hippos disguised as horses (especially with the colour that Rabbit came in this morning......)!

I was on herd turnout before I moved my boys so this is my first year of having to manage my own grazing, and whilst its been a learning curve (I've a new found hatred for electric fencing - more so than haynet filling!), I'm enjoying having more control over when and how to rest what has been grazed already x Although I'll probably need reminding of this in the depths of winter when the rain is pelting me from all angles and I have to sort fencing out etc :rolleyes:😂
 
I made a makeshift small paddock for my EMS pony but had to move him about 3 weeks ago as he started jumping out to go looking for the others so I moved him to another paddock where he could see them. The small paddock was bare earth but is now lush grass of about 5-6 inches!
 
Well I hate you all 😂😂 . By way of contrast I have been resting the second paddock for at least two weeks along with a good section of this one and there is barely any difference to see in the grass!!
 
My fields have gone an interesting shade of lurid luminous green as well! The dusty paddock (there was literally nothing) which has only been rested for a month is already springing back as though nothing ever happened! I dread to think of the sugar content there 🫣

They’re on the standing hay and even then, all the gaps left by the dry summer are rapidly filling in with lush green grass!

On the England/Wales border, the grass is growing with fury (although we had a frost this morning). I moved my ewe lambs onto a rested field today which a month ago was barer than the Sahara desert because if I leave it any longer the fussy buggers won't eat it as they don't like it too long :rolleyes:

They will find it hard to eat if it is too long.
 
Hay bale we put in the feeder last friday has hardly been touched. The previous bale was eaten within a week so they have definitely got something nicer in the field to eat.

Reggie's acrobatics are telling me there is plenty of sugar around.
