Hi All,

I have a young (rising 5) year old KWPN which, due to unforseen circumstances, I am not able to keep right now.

Totally breaking my heart but, needs must and I need to be sensible.

I wish to loan her but have no idea where the best place would be? There never seems to be much on H&H and places like Horsemart and Horse Deals, do not seem to have a loan section

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Im down in the south west and, as I would like a competition home for her (or someone experienced with babies) I had kind of ruled out local rags as thought I may have to go further affield?
Never loaned out a horse before so totally clueless!

I am also in the souht west - somerset area, not sure if this is local to you, but 'the blackmore vale magazing' usually attracts quite an experience audience. I will also keep an ear out for anyone that could be suitable

I wouldn't (and didn't) advertise - my Novice eventer went out on loan through word of mouth. Talk to your trainer and farrier and everyone else you know in the horse world and see what comes back - I had no problem loaning my horse to a good home.

Do you have a regular trainer, or even someone in the area you've taken a few lessons with? I know it's done a bit differently but most of the very successful loan/lease situations I've been involved with have been "known quantities", often going to another student of the regular trainer or at least to someone either known to them or who rides with someone they know. That way you have some assurance the horse will stay in a program you are comfortable with and someone you trust will be able to oversee it.

I'm sure there are many happy loan homes that come through random advertisements but I'd at least try the word of mouth route.

Also, be clear on what SHE has to offer someone and promote her accordingly. Green horses are tricky because often people who are really good with youngsters are inundated with options and don't have to pay for the privilege. Has she shown at all? What's she doing at home and what are you looking for her to do?

Thanks.

Yes, I have spoken to my trainer, she'd have her but has too much in at the moment and is going to put some feelers out for me.

Yes, she has shown as a 3 year old (won at county level) so she may be of interest to a showing home, but ideally; dressage.

In that case, could you get in touch with a local dressage trainer you admire, or even a showing producer, if you're okay with her continuing in the vein and feel confident in the people involved?

Thanks. I did think about that but I want to loan her out as I can no longer afford to keep her. I have had a couple of people interested but they want me to pay for her keep.
Im begining to realise that most "good" riders think they would be doing me a favour.

Any rider worth their salt would be doing you a favour if they took a young horse, invested time, money and experience into it, only to have the risk that the horse was whipped out from underneath them down the line.

I can see why someone would ask for it's basic keep fees, I probably would too if I was producing a young horse for someone.

Have to agree with that. Had it happen to me a few times.
