Where to advertise a tricky horse for sale?

sorry, 4.5k for an 8yr old with (presumeably?) no record and not a safe, reasonably well schooled (and willing) gelding is bonkers imo.
has he seen the vet?

Umm confused.
No record of what?
Not a safe? What do you mean?
Has he seen the vet? - yes, to have his vaccs and teeth done regularly. Why else?

No record of competition i.e affiliated? has he competed at any level?
Not safe ie a novice rider couldn't ride?
seen the vet for physical checks to see if that is what is causing it?

Yes he's competed in showing, dressage and jumping.

No I would not ask a novice to ride him, for his well being as much as theirs. I did get a woman who hadn't ridden in 10yrs get on him when I tried to put him on loan. He didn't actually do anything wrong but she didn't ask anything of him, she just plebbed round.

Definitely not physical, it's all in his over active mind. He has back lady to him every 6 months as he is in hard work and I don't want him to be in any pain doing it. Only twice has he had a minor problem with his back in the time I've had him.

I didn't put the 4.5K price on him, my instructors did, one of whom has been pictured in H&H with her horse winning a championship show and the other who regularly has pupils at Scope and HOYS, so I guess they know what they're talking about. They are certainly both excellent instructors!

Dressage (unaff), competing at Novice, working Elementary at home. Scores vary depending on mood, range from 40.3% (a v bad day) to 67.8%. The comments are usually encouraging, even if it is not reflected in the mark.

Jumping, have only jumped 85cms out, not placed, not massive faults. More often than not, runs on too fast and knocks it. Better outdoors, did not do any last summer though due to weather/ground/inclination!
At home jumps 1.10m one day but next time change the wings or pole colours and he just won't do it. Even if it's just a trotting pole. Very, very frustrating as he is well capable of what is being asked of him, he's just arsey.

I TOTALLY disagree

There are plenty of amazing riders who don't have ridiculous amounts of money- you would be lucky if any of them took him on!

The original question was where to advertise him, not the price, so the above conversation has been purely academic!

I know whose opinion I respect, those who are at the top of their field, have seen him ridden and are up on the current horse market, not complete strangers who have no idea of his abilities/talents.

Thanks all for your input, it has been most interesting!

Lol, not much poin in posting then if you have no interest in our opinions, I think the online group can give you a very good idea of who you will attract with a certain advert/price/wording.
All I can say is good luck with selling, all the usual places for advertising.

Given the price you are looking for and the type of rider I'd try all the major horse web sites and the H and H magazine. Wouldn't dwell on his quirks in the add other than not novice ride. Obviously though would go into more details when people phone.

£4500 for a gelding that doesn't actually do anything without a fight....not on your nelly! Sorry but that is fools gold!

I have to say I agree, and the fact that you were offered around the 7K mark for him at some point is purely academic.

I have a friend with the most beautiful mare, wonderfully bred and talent to burn. However, like yours, there is no constency and she can be pretty difficult. One day an angel, the next a devil.

Her current value is nil, despite being offered five figures for her at some point.

Peoples comments on his value aren't really academic - because we are the horse buying public.

However advertising in a good quality magazine or on the valued on-line sites should hopefully generate the most interest.

You never know, a change of environment could suit him down to the ground.

Good luck.
