My friend in West Sussex if looking for a sharer for her 17hh Dressage / RC horse.

She did have someone but they have had to stop due to a change in circumstances, she found them through placing an ad on horse mart but is worried as that person was the only response she got!!

I have advised her to put up ads in all the local tack / feed shops which she is going to do and she'll put another ad on horsemart as its only a tenner...

But is there any better places to put sharer ads?

He's a lovely chap, done well at dressage up to Elementary and could easily do very well at affiliated, also has been placed at BE intro too. Regularly been in RC team stuff inc. show jumping. He's not difficult but needs a good confident rider as he's quite sensitive. She wants someone who can do 3 days a week which would include 1 weekend day and with the option to compete for the right person!! He's on part livery in Alfold at the mo and I think she was hoping for £150 per month.....

Is that reasonable? And are there people out there that would want that sort of arrangement?

I used to have a sharer for my mare (about 4 years ago), the lady did her 3 days pw and paid £100 pm, she was only on DIY livery and I did the mornings on the sharers days anyway, she just literally rode her and fed her after she'd ridden on her days so I thought my friends was pretty reasonable!

He doesn't have that sort of competition record although he is valuable in his own ways and has previously qualified for HOYS. My feeling though was that a rider of that calibre with that amount to spend would probably have their own horse or be saving for one. I'd say she'd be better off looking for someone who might have had to give up their own horse while at uni so would have that level of skill but possibly not that much money each month.

I'd second trying new rider, it would also give you an indication of how many ads are out there for sharers and what they are charging

I have 2 sharers who ride my boy 5 days a week between them, they pay me a £100 per month each but they do what they like with him as i dont ride anymore due to old age (me) and loss of confidence, there use to be a a web site called horse2000 thats where i got mine from, there are alot of time wasters out there though,"yes i am a good rider" and then when they get on your horses back they cant ride at all, also you need reliable people that is very important

Try the local riding club and riding school too. Our RC has people without their own horse doing unaff novice dressage so someone like that might be suitable. Or the RS might have clients in the given up there own horse or don't have time for their own bracket that would be suitable or even student instructors in need of a ride.
