I need reccomendations - only really heard of Huntley School of Equitation, Wellington and Trent Park. Want somewhere where its about a year and you come away with BHSAI at least. Must be live-in, with riding and lunge lessons as well as teaching practice and stable management lectures prefererably

Thanks in advance.

(also in C+E)

I did mine on a three month intensive course at Wellie...Stage 1,2 and 3 and PT. Was brilliant - loved it. I obviously paid for mine but they do take students for 1/ 2 years.

I will try my best to answer any questions you have - although it has been a while since I was there - about 8/ 9 years I think!

Limes Farm E.C. in Folkestone. I was a live in Working Pupil there (many moons ago), accommodation was free, you worked in return for your training. Although at the time you could apply to the council(?) for a grant to help with living costs. I think it may have changed hands, not sure if Ann Berry is still there. It would definitely be worth google-ing. I would recommend it. Good luck.

I just want somewhere that i will learn a lot, get to do plenty of riding on different horses and not be used as a total skivvy (although obviously i understand the 'working' part of working pupil must come into play

) I'm not the best rider and havent got to ride much over the last couple of years due to a lame horse but i really want to improve and want to learn how to school and get the best out of different horses... do you think Wellington would fit the bill on all this?

My stepson is a working pupil at Wellington and about to end his year.

I would say this is a good place to go! He has received all the training promised and if he had got his arse into gear could have got his exams! But he is a typical lad of 18 and there is too much else going on in his social life! LOL

The work isnt too hard, infact said stepson says it is a doddle compared to when he worked on same yard as me!!

If you have facebook I could possibly get him to talk to you direct and you can ask him all your questions.

Send me a private message with your contact details if you do and I will get him to add you.

Good luck
Jeanette

Yes I do think Wellie would fit the bill. I'm not sure how the ins and outs work of what you hae to pay for as a WP but the 'work' side of things wasn't any more hard work than any other yard work I've done...just the usual stable duties. A big variety of horses to ride at all levels so you should definitely get the chance to improve. I alays found, the harder you wor, the more people notice and the bigger the reward. There is usually plenty of staff..and as above the social life was always great!! ;-)
