Yes, it is prescription only. Your vet will prescribe it if the horse shows evidence of ulcers on a gastroscope

You’ve only had this horse for six weeks. He does sound, though, from your previous posts that he might well have either or both of foregut and hind gut ulcers. That’s something for your vet.

Don’t start medicating him willy nilly from stuff bought off t’internet on advice from people on a forum, however well meant the advice is. Get him checked out and scoped by your vet. Whilst scoping can only detect foregut ulcers, your vet can then discuss with you what treatment(s) to give going forward.

Or you can use Abler.com (which our vet told us about) which doesn’t need a prescription.
Just FYI it is illegal to buy medications from Abler. Slightly hazy supply chain, appears to be US company, but meds actually from Philippines? Without the same oversight of UK meds. Anyway importing vet meds without a license is illegal, and can attract attention from the VMD. Ultimately can be prosecuted but if you got caught, it is likely a slap on the wrist first time. (Yes it is likely effective, and is usually sucralfate in the pot, and is cheap)

Slightly bothered that our vet has told us about an illegal route for medication but there we go. I would update that having used the usual prescription stuff and this stuff (omeprazole not sucralfate) i would pay the extra for the uk stuff as it’s easier to administer via syringe rather than granules and I think it is more effective. I would also only ever give this stuff after consultation with a vet!
