Having a big clear out and we've got loads of stuff that we just don't need any more.

We're going to sell some of it but we're all about to relocate to different parts of the country so it all needs to go and we're not happy to just throw the stuff that doesn't sell in the bin.

Does anyone know of any charities that would be interested in everything from bridles to rugs, grooming stuff etc?

We're in Hampshire, so if there was a local charity that would be great, but equally we'd be happy for it to go abroad for working horses.

I was thinking The Brooke but I can't see anything on their website about donating tack.

When we left Hampshire we gave a load of stuff to this local rescue .http://southhantspony.org.uk/about/history/
They came with a trailer and collected the lot there were rugs tack some rubber matting all of which we didn't want to transport 260 miles to our new place

They were very grateful and anything they can't use they put in their tack and kit sales to benefit the charity .
They are in Hampshire so may be quite close to you.

Bransby horses as well as the 300+ horses they have on site, have a second hand tack shop that takes in donations and sells to raise fund for the charity - I'm sure they'd be very grateful of anything you had spare.

The have a site in Hertfordshire I think as well as the main center in Lincs.

Most equine charities welcome these items, I'm in Lancs so donated a lot of items to HAPPA.

(they where also happy to accept unwashed rugs etc too)

Be aware that if you DO donate your unused tack it is highly unlikely that your dream of your tack being used on some poor old horse in a rescue centre will be the eventual reality.

It is very probably the case that the items will be sold to raise money for the cause rather than a direct donation of the tack to the charity concerned.

I didn't realise this would happen when I donated my old boy's tack to a well-known equine charity, I had visions of his saddle & bridle being used on a deserving horse somewhere - I later found out that they send all the stuff they receive to auction and then use the money so raised to help the cause. Obviously that's what they've found works best for them - and OK the money would have gone to a good cause anyway, but I have to say I was a bit disillusioned (and a wee bit miffed I have to say too :) that this wasn't made clear when I donated the items. I feel it should have been.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I've had a look at some of the charities and they're quite clear about what they do with it. To be honest I don't really mind whether they use it on their horses or sell it to raise money for their cause. I'm getting rid of it because I'm having to sell up and give up horses for a while but don't feel comfortable just throwing perfectly good tack away.

As long as some good comes of it and the tack is used I couldn't give a monkey's :)

If you speak to Lili at Fur Feather Meds she arranged donations to be sent to Prince Fluffy Kareem, both pages can be found on facebook, it's a fantastic cause and could well do with some donations :)
