Where to find bits for the larger horse??

Hi everyone,

I have a 17.2hh Dutch Warmblood and am really struggling to find a bit for him... he needs a 7 inch but none of my local tack shops stock them and I cannot find any internet sites that sell bits that size!!

Surely there must be shop thats sells tack etc for the larger horse?!!

I cannot be the only person that has a larger horse!!

So if anyone knows of anywhere to get larger bits then please let me know!!

fylde saddlery will make you any bit in any size can be expensive depending what you want

I have enough trouble finding 6.25 so I dont envy you! At the moment Im having a bit made for me by A Bit Special. In the past I have used Abbey who are very good. Sadly if you go down the bespoke route it does cost but at least you know you are using something that fits properly. Ive scoured sites all over the globe and there really is bugger all out there if you need wider mouthpieces. To give you an idea (for pelhams) Ive paid between £85 and £120 for bespoke. Not sure what sort of bit you are after so may not cost you so much for something like a snaffle.

Myler bits generally come up on the large side, might be worth seeing if they've got anything

Most bits that are available only go up to 6' or 6 1/4' if you are lucky. I have had to get mine custom made (my 17.1 ID takes 6 1/2 to 6 3/4 depending on style of bit/how many joints). Yet another one of the joys of having large horses. You never get off the peg stuff!

Think myler have a bit measuring device that you can use before ordering a custom made one to ensure you get the correct size.
