My 21 yr old bf is starting college in the new year to finally start his farriers training. The course costs roughly £12,000. However, he is from a low income family and being on an apprentice wage obviously doesn't earn much either. At the minute there is no funding available for students from Wales and we are finding it a struggle to find grants or loans for him as he is in the grey area of being a apprentice.

We have applied for a bursary from WPCS but does anyone have any idea where else we could possibly fine funding?

Any help is grately appreciated as we are pulling hairs atm

Hmm, when does he have to pay the fees? I would have expected they would be paid by someone as living on apprentice wages is hard enough! Sorry not v helpful but a bump for you...

This seems to be what happens here but don't know if Wales is different?

Would I be eligible for funding?

· Candidates aged between 16 and 18 years of age are usually entitled to be fully funded · Candidates aged 19 years of age and over at the start of their apprenticeship are usually entitled to funding, however the employer of the apprentice is required to make a contribution towards the cost of the apprenticeship, this is currently £3,500. · Funding may not be available if the qualification levels of previously passed qualifications are too high, queries relating to the level of qualifications should be sent in first instance to the Recruitment and CPD Manager. · Candidates who have qualifications that exceed the level allowed by the funding body must be prepared to bear the full cost of their apprenticeship.
