Where to get a new dog?

After losing my dog a few weeks ago I'm half looking out for another.
Don't really want a puppy but there seems to be far less rescues around at the moment and puppies are a ridiculous price.
I'd like a rescue and I'm open to most breeds etc.
Only main priority is that it gets on with my other dog who is very friendly and quite submissive with other dogs.
Generally my other dogs have found me but in theses strange times it seems dogs are in short supply!

I'd be inclined to wait a couple of months if possible. Once the furlough scheme ends and more businesses close/jobs go, I expect a large number of lockdown acquired dogs will sadly be looking for new homes. Also when the novelty of the same puppies has worn off, and people who've never had dogs before lose interest or the reality of dog ownership kicks in when their behaviour becomes more challenging, due to lack of exercise, proper socialisation and training. So many people get dogs because they like the look of them or they're fashionable, without researching the temperament, health and needs of the breed. I just can't understand it, and with the internet there's no excuse for not doing your homework!

Sorry for the digression, but people buying dogs without doing the above is one of my pet hates.

I too am looking for a dog and contacted a breed rescue who have been very slow in contacting me. They have had the same dogs on their website for some time but on Facebook they seem to be rescuing dogs - one of whom has had pups. As someone who generally doesn't do Facebook I find this annoying and they don't always answer the phone so think I will have to give up on them.

Im looking too.
Looked at all rescue sites and not much going on. im sure there must be lots of dogs needing a good home but I dont know where they are.
Im not too fussed on breed just looking for a young adult that gets on with other dogs. All ways had big dogs but im happy for a change.

I volunteer for a greyhound rescue and we can't keep up with making sure the website/facebook/instagram are up to date - some are being reserved as soon as they are available, its crazy busy atm and we currently only have 3 available for rehoming out of 20 kennel spaces....

Midlands. South warwks. I'm not in a rush really but miss having 2. My old girl went 2 months ago and I miss her as does my other dog.
I'm sure something will turn up.

Most small rescues/rehoming groups are run by unpaid volunteers who sometimes have day jobs as well as looking after dogs, think it's a bit unfair to expect them to be at the end of a computer/phone 24/7.
And they do have to wade through a lot of bunkum and spam to find the genuine enquiries.

Updating older websites can be a complete PITA also, social media is much quicker.

There are a quite a few 8-10 month old dogs being sold on the freeads sites now as the owners have discovered they/kids/partners/neighbours/people down the road are allergic to them ... ???

I don't think anyone has said they expect them to be available 24/7?
It just seems not many rescue dogs are around at the moment.

That was me. I'm not expecting volunteers to be available 24/7 but if you have a website it should have the current dogs imo. If you don't do Facebook, they are missing people who could be an excellent home for one of their dogs. I have tried contacting my email and phone 5 times but got one very general email response which I replied to and heard nothing more.
