We are off to Dulverton at the weekend and wondered if anyone knew of any trekking centres around? My partner is inexperienced, has never ridden properly (just walked around on my horse) and quite heavy (not huge). I know this never used to be a problem, but so many places have brought in 12 stone limits, and he certainly isn't under that!

We really just wanted to go for a gentle amble over the moors, and perhaps the chance for me to have the odd faster paced bit here and there (although not too bothered). Any ideas?

I think your best bet would be West Anstey Riding Stables - they have all sorts of horses and cater for all standards. There is also Pine Lodge but don't know so much about them - both of these are just a few miles from Dulverton.

The Exmoor pony centre is just outside Dulverton but I think an Exmoor would be too small for your OH !!

Early Saturday morning is the first meet of the season (also just outside Dulverton) - I'll be there on my unfit horse!!
