Where to look for a project horse in Scotland?

I have land, plenty of experience and the financial capacity to look after another horse, but very little capital. Where would I look for a project horse that would be cheap or free and not in the south of England? Ideally I want something big and under 8. I look on Project Horses regularly, but they all seem to be on the south coast. I will keep looking in local papers. Any other suggestions?

Thanks, I will try those.
Ideally, I'd like a big dressage warmblood. I'd look at anything that had a bit of potential though. I wouldn't want to go smaller than 16hh. I'm not stupidly brave, but have plenty of space, time and patience. I'd jump if the horse wanted to, but not too bothered about it if not.

Horses4homes sometimes have horses looking for homes due to the current rider being overhorsed, may find something suitable there. The SSPCA also have several Tb types in which need work. Or you could approach WHW or similar as they may get contacted by owners looking for advice or help. Suppose it depends on what sort of project you a looking for.

I think a cheap or free horse over 16hh, a warmblood and under 8 years might be looking for the impossible. I'm sure you could get an ex racehorse for a low price in that age and height bracket though, if you contacted trainers. A friend of mine has just got a nice horse that way, but warmbloods tend to hold their value at least until they are 8. I find horses in Scotland more expensive than in England, and got my latest horse from Kent, and probably saved about £2500 in doing so!

Try putting wanted ads in Scot Ads and on facebook pages - there are FB pages offering horses for sale in whatever area you're in I imagine, have a look (and the odd freebie might pop up). Also try putting an advert on the Project Horses website stating only in Scotland. I had some interest through that. I'll be in the same situation once I rehome one of my horses, I have just spent a fortune on new stables so have no initial money to buy either but I've got a few "freebie" ones lined up to look at (if I can ever rehome mine... - if you want a 15yo 17hh gentle hack then let me know!).

Just be prepared that they are likely to have issues though, they're free for a reason normally although you do get the odd genuinely green one that the owner simply wants a good home for and couldn't care about the money side but they're usually "sold" through word of mouth.

Thanks all, I've looked at Belwade but they don't have any riding horses. I got one of my current horses from ScotAds for £20 and he is a superstar now that his issues are ironed out! Hoping to find something like him again! It's not in any way urgent at the moment, so I'll keep scanning and will put some adverts out if it does become urgent - hadn't thought of doing it that way around. I'm not very good with Facebook - how would you find pages with horses for sale?

You open a facebook account, keep details to a minimum.
There is a search box, just enter "horse group aberdeen" or similar.
There is one there!
You apply to join it, and can go from there. There will be hundreds of people now wanting to be your friends!
