After last years disaster purchase I’m tentatively starting to look again for the growing child. But there don’t seem to be half as many ponies for sale on Facebook, so where are they all? Where are the best up to date places to look?
I’m wanting a 12.2-13.1hh ish good reliable pony. Finer type ideally.
I know all the ‘ask pony club DC’ etc routes, it’s more actual places to look/good dealers I’m after please.

Thank you!

Facebook is currently more busy than it usually is at this time of year (usually completely dead between Xmas and March/April) so I wouldn’t give up - I think come the spring there will be more out there. I am certainly waiting to advertise the now unbelievably outgrown pony until May/June.

I’ve a deposit down on a 12.2hh to pick up tomorrow who I found through Facebook, as projects are still coming up. I don’t see many ‘made’ ponies advertised anywhere now. It’s not worth selling at winter prices now when in a month or two you could sell for full value. It’s always worth putting up a wanted ad though. If the perfect family came up for ours, we would sell now. I just won’t bother advertising.

In terms of looking generally - find a pony doing the job you want in a home with a similar setup to yours. It really does work. I try to sell the outgrown ones following this method too, as it creates secure landings for pony and happy partnerships from day 1.

I was at the hospital with my mother a couple of weeks ago and got chatting with a lady who breeds , if I recall accurately, Welsh ponies in upper Teesdale and she was asking if I knew anyone who wanted children’s ponies. Naturally my brain can’t recall the farm name…I ll try …

If South Wales isn't too far for you, have a look at Serena James Equine on Facebook. She does schooling and sales livery but as she's absolutely tiny, has a lot of small ponies in.

ETA - not sure if this link will be accessible (I can't link to the exact post so it's her profile page) but just remembered an acquaintance is selling a pony that might fit the bill. Scroll down to Tony the Pony https://www.facebook.com/lois.corkhill.5

We have got ours from facebook, pony club ponies is a decent group but you will find people jump on your wanted posts…it’s really infuriating!

agree it’s hard to go down the DC route as so few make it to market as they get snapped up by families waiting in the wings for ponies to be outgrown! We are in the same boat about to start the search for 13.2-14.2ish 🤦🏻‍♀️

Crumbs!!! We are about to sell our 14.2 and think we need to be asking for more than the 8-10k we thought then

Thank you so much!! I had totally forgotten NFED and the PC site, which I bought my son’s pony from last year. Think I have blocked all my previous pony hunts from my memory 🤣

I am looking around £7-8k, I will not spend more. I’ve been pleasantly surprised so far that prices do seem to have dropped, lots around for 4-8k.
Absolutely no greys and no cobs. Child is capable and has been riding all her life, but she’s my nervous one. Forward is fine, ‘can have the occasional cheeky buck’ is not. Has to have been out jumping around 70.
Also under 16 ideally as needs to partner a younger sibling too.

I have bought this 3 times since covid for £3.5-£5.5k by thinking outside the box slightly, so I know it is possible, it’s just the finding!
I bought a 5 figure pony last year which was a disaster, however much you pay they are still animals which change and go wrong, so I won’t be doing that again.

Thank you again, loads of good ideas!!
We will also be selling the first ridden pony…so middle child is having the new pony, youngest child is going into her 12hh super duper forward and experienced jumping pony, so we’ll be selling youngest child’s perfect and steady 12hh first ridden.
I don’t envision having to advertise her, but if anyone will be looking later this summer feel free to keep in mind.

Its a shame my 13hh isn't back up for loan yet, he would have suited you by the sounds of it! not many parents are as receptive as you seem to be - everything has to be absolute perfection or they aren't interested!

SMP is in the south and has a good selection of pc/jumping ponies. We bought our magical gelding from them many years ago, he is currently out on loan as I couldn't part with him and he will be ready for a tiny tot home later this year.
