Where to look for rescue companion?

I tried to take on a rescue companion but I was told by nearly all of them I was out of their range . The blue x in Oxfordshire seemed more reasonable til I had to submit numerous photos of fields/ fences/ stables etc then I had to agree to visit twice so I could demonstrate I could lead and groom . Then had an email a few days later saying they were due a ' grass eating horse ' that might be suitable, at that point I gave up . If someone like me with 40 years experience , can provide numerous references and has horses at home cannot re-home a companion Im not surprised their over run .

I think sometimes it's easier to just buy another ridden horse they cost the same to keep and at least you have 2 you can ride.

Thats my view on it anyway ?
