Due to some unforseen circumstances, I am having to think ahead (plus it is keeping me busy) and should the worst case scenario come true I will be unable to ride my horses for a period of time (unknown). Because Grace is going so well at the moment I would hate for her to be turned away and lose all the condition and muscle I have worked so hard to attain, plus she had 5 years of chilling out and has only been in work for just under 12 months with nice breaks in between.

So, I was wondering whether anyone could recommend a professional dressage rider who would be willing to take a BD Novice level horse for a period of time and continue her education?

Thanks,

Rebecca

P.S. If there are any you would stay away from, please PM me them too as Grace is a very special but very sensitive girl so it needs to be 100% right for me to send her

I can give you the name of someone in Hampshire, not cheap mind at £200 pw. She is very good, and places a very strong emphasis on having the basics correct. PM me if you want details

yep advertised in this week and last weeks horse and hound !!! im guessing its the same price what ever level !! xxx im going there again sunday if you want me to politely ask ?? x

I would say Andrew Gould would be your best bet, I am sending Ru off to Jo barry for 2 weekd in november and again for another 2 weeks later on, I am hoping she will get on with him as I like her style of riding.

I rate Gareth Hughes very highly. His yard is lovely, the horses get super care and the facilities are fantastic. My horse will go to him for some intensive training and to start changes properly when he is fully fit again.

Google Aspen Grove Dressage.

Andrew Gould did one of our horses a while ago. Horse was at novice level and v naughty! He did a very good job but is some way away from you.

Have to agree, was very impressed with Gareths in the summer. Wouldnt hesitate to send my horse there, they all looked very happy relaxed gorses, and the yard was immaculate.

Personally I wouldn't send my horse to anyone - I might get it back and not be abe to ride it!!! Lol. But i=in your circumstances I would consider it I suppose. I can thoroughly recommend Becky Moody - she's based Sheffield way I think. She's ridden mine a couple of times and like Grace he's a very, very sensitive chap. Have you thought of Clive Halsall? Again a fab trainer and ride and based quite close to you - not sure if he takes horses in though. There's loads of people in our area that have it!

just a little word of advice. Make sure , if you do send your horse to a 'name' that it will be them that work your horse. Agree how and what you do and dont want for your horse and you.
Ask if there is hacking lunging, use of horse walker etc...It is quite normal for a more senior member of staff to do the hacking and lunging. You do need to make it quite clear what you want.
I would also say, if you can, go and see your horse and discuss the training and be ready to maybe adjust the 'plan' if need be.
Try also when you are ready to take the horse back to go and get lessons on the horse so that the trainer can talk you through what they have done and how you can get the same results.

S_V, I might not have to send her anywhere, and like you I would rather do the work myself but at the moment I am trying to think ahead should the worst case scenario occur and I will be unable to ride for what could be 6 months depending on the recovery period. I hadn't thought of Clive to be honest, but he is another possibilty if he does indeed take some horses in.

partoow, thank you for all of that information. I suppose it is a bit like a loan/lease agreement in some ways. You have to state exactly what you expect while your horse is there, including who does the riding and who does the handling on the ground etc etc. I agree that I would need to have some lessons with whoever takes her on to see what she has been doing, but again this could be problematic depending on how much fitness I have lost.

hi hun, Andrew is £230 a week, not including feed, not sure what it is including feed, that includes hay/haylage and him riding everyday (with one day off if longer than a week).

Howcome you might have to send her away? x

I would echo Partoow - it is unikely that the bigger names would actually ride your horse, often their work riders will be doing the bread and butter schooling.

I will PM you wit some suggestions

But I need to sort something out then should the worst happen I will already know my options and my dad has said he will pay for her to go away because of the circumstances

Basically, I am having a biopsy on a lymphnode that has been inflamed since August and being tested for Hodgkins Lymphoma. I am coming to terms with it all much better than I was on Friday. I thought it might explain why I am looking for someone to take Grace on for schooling if folks knew the facts but when I first put the post on I was still in shock...

It's the aftercare that would be an issue if the test results are positive (still could be something and nothing though) as the radiation therapy or chemotherapy if it is deeper than just this one lymphnode can really drain you and I would hate to be worrying about the horses rather than just concentrating on getting 100% better.
