This is my first time venturing onto this forum, so hi folks :D Off to explore in a minute.

I'd ridden/owned/competed horses for 24 years but 5 years ago, my mare had to be put down and I've mostly been avoiding anything horse-related (apart from the odd ride) since. I didn't have the money to buy/keep another horse - and I had 2 children instead!!

Now I feel completely out of the loop :(

My little boy is 4 and reeeeally keen to ride, as is my 2 year old daughter. But I can't get my head around riding school costs... I've been heading back to my old stomping ground up north to ride friends horses, rather than forking out down here But if riding is something my children fancy doing, it's something I don't want to discourage ;)

So here's my question (or rather, questions):

If I were to look for a share near me (Epsom), does anyone know the best place to start? All my knowledge of PC/RC's, livery yards etc, is all up north, not down here.

And how much do people pay for shares, or does it just vary according to place/number of days?

Thanks v much for any advice xx

Hi try mid Surrey pony club - they are local to Epsom and are likely to know of ponies to share. Contact details are on the PC website. Also try adverts at hengist farm and Superpet horse shops which are also local. Best of luck with your search.

Share or a part loan is a great idea I had a bad experience but I would definitely do it again with the right people. Gumtree, Friday-ad, horsemart, preloved and local ads in the saddlers all seem popular. You could also ask the local farrier he might know of someone with a horse that they are keeping as a companion now through a lack of rider that might be willing to let you take the reins :D

Thank you for your replies :)

I've just dropped an email to the sec of the Mid-Surrey PC, and another to an ad on Preloved.

Eek!

Might have a wander over to Hengest Farm at the weekend too.
Finger's crossed :)
