Where were the crowds at HOYS yesterday?

I was watching the show jumping at HOYS on Sky last night and the place looked half empty (or more!) Where was everyone?
 
I wasnt there but i was just taking a look at the tickets etc wednesday and every day but one day was sold out and the others had quite alot of decent seats where still free too book..:p
 
Was dead Wednesday. We were booked 3 rows from back, the 20 or so rows infringe, empty! We sat right down the front in the end. Definately half the amount of people & less atmosphere.

Household cavalry - amazing!!
 
Well im glad its not just me :) I couldnt get over how there where more empty seats then full (even during the evening performance) it was deadly quiet......Sign of the times I guess, such a shame.

Alot ot the trade stands where empty, hardly anyone buying at all:confused:
 
Ive just got back from hoys just now, we were thinking the same thing- it was pretty quiet in the shopping village and in the arena early on. It did fill up for the evening performance tonight though.

The household cavalry were absolutely fantastic, total goosebumps from start to finish, they got a well deserved standing ovation from the crowd - it was the highlight of the night for me!

I did love the scurry racing too though- id never seen it before but it looks ike soo much fun- id really love to have a go!

The problem with the shopping was that nothing seemed like it was on sale or particularly cheap...
 
If it is Thursday you mean, I agree.
However the entertainment, Household Calvary with live band was as fantastic as ever, and the jumping and showing top top class.
Just a pity Sky have the tv,no way of watching it for lots of folk.
Had a great time,bought loads, bag drop well used.
Would agree, Your Horse is a better place for bargains, or as one stall holder put it, HOYS has a better class of shopping.
Will certainly be going next year, even if the car park is £8.
 
I wonder whether money is an issue these days with ticket prices so high?? I've booked tickets for Olympia and the cheap seats I paid £33. When you add the cost of travelling to the venue, spending money etc - it's not a cheap day out..... However I consider it a well earnt treat!
 
I was talking to a friend this week who normally goes to HOYS but was missing it this year and she said the cost definitely put her off. She said it was £48 each for tickets for her and daughter, plus £8 car park, plus fuel - makes for an expensive day out. They went to Badminton earlier this year for almost half the money she said.
I saw the Household Cavalry a couple of years ago there, just before some of the troop were due to go out to Afghanistan, brought a lump to my throat.
 
I agree that the cost is ridiculous. The cheapest tickets are around £28 and you are sat dusting the rafters you are so high up. I bought the next price up at £40 cos I wanted to see what was happening without having to use binoculars! I wouldn't have gone if my friend hadn't qualified. And she wasn't even in the main arena.
And £8 parking on top is absolutely disgraceful.

I did enjoy the day but won't be going again. Not at those prices.
 
Went yesterday and was very surprised how empty it was half way through the evening performance. I too would like the tickets to be cheaper, but just to put the price in to perspective, many people would pay that £48 for 90 minutes of football. Classes or displays were going on very nearly all of the 15 hours we were there. I know which I would prefer! Same goes for parking - just over 50p per hour, probably the cheapest around Birmingham.
Household Cavalry? Superb!!! Tingles down the spine and probably not a dry eye in the house!
Right now I will go and hide!
 
I too went yesterday and didn't think it was that empty compared to 2 years ago. I certainly brought a few bargains. Again the Household Cavalry were the highlight of the night for me. Had a brill day with the exception of the grumpy man sitting next to us, who called couloureds "mongrels" how rude!
 
I was lucky enough to win tickets to see Tuesday nights Express Eventing and thoroughly enjoyed it! But.....there was very little atmosphere as so many seats where empty. When I looked online I couldn't believe the price of the tickets! If I hadn't won them there is no way that i could have afforded to go when you add in the cost of petrol to get there and food etc! I am sure that with things the way they are at the moment it's the cost putting people off. Such a shame really.

I agree!

The whole outing cost me around £110 for me and my daughter by the time you added up the tickets, train fares and a picnic to cover breakfast and lunch! I'm sure that is quite cheap considering we were there from the beginning right through 9 o'clock (would have stayed later but had to get train. :( )

What does disappoint me every year though is the lack of decent eateries. I thought we'd have dinner at Wetherspoons outside the hall this year, only to find they'd stopped serving food at 4.30 when I planned to have dinner. I ended up paying £16 for a tasteless salad, a dry sandwich, two yoghurts and two bottles of pop at the food place in the hall.

But yes, the seats were half empty even for the evening performance. :(
 
I've done it for over 10yrs now, first time this year I've been unimpressed with the shopping & atmosphere. Plus cost was extortionate. I'll try Your Horse Live next year I think.
 
Well this post is sending surely a clear message to HOYS and up and coming Olympia...it's getting too expensive. Just to attend with ticket prices, fuel or train fares and the odd few pennies to buy lunch etc is a minimum of £100 per person.... that's too much
