I'm looking to expand my freelance teaching. At the moment all my clients are from word of mouth, so am wondering the best way to advertise? I see all the adds in local tack shops, but when I did this before I didn't get any phone calls so not sure if people use this (or maybe I just sounded rubbish!).

So other than word of mouth (which is still the best way!), what can people suggest?

Any good ideas greatly recieved!

Word of mouth would be my top option, as if they're well known then they're obviously reputable (IMO)
I was going to say tack shop, but you've already done that. Maybe put another ad up and see what the response is? As livery owners if you can put an ad up at their yard for their liveries to see?

What about an offer on your advert like

- introductory lesson is 25% off when you mention this advert -

or something like that. You might just have to grab people's attention

i would say get some business cards done and leve them at tack shops and stuff and also try doing some teaching for local RC or PC as that will get you known and you should pick up clients that way if you are good!

My daughter's instructors have come by word of mouht, or we also had lessons with a lady who taught her at Pony Club and who she got on well with.

Try ringing your local PC and see if they need any instructors anytime. Ours has instructors at camp, and then they have rallies and weekly training sessions in the summer.

From that I know the instructors get quite a bit of teaching work with the kids at their homes
