For various reasons, not least that I have decided to call it a day and not breed again and I need to cut back badly which was particularly brought home this last few weeks when we've all had the most rotten time with the flu and there's nobody I can use as back up to see to the horses, so suggestions please where to advertise this little lot. I know it's a bad time to sell but I just want to get the ball rolling so need ideas where is the best place to put them please.

Freddy, TB x cob, bay, 9 months, to make 15.2, possibly more, well put together cheeky chappie, should make cracking RC horse or hunter, moves very well.

Harry, brown TB x cob, 9 months to make a proper show cob like the rest of his siblings; very attractive and kind, moves well.

Sasha, 12 years, 14.1 bay mare in foal to Ambrey Chester, due May. Graded with SPSS and moves very well. Her 3 year old by AC gained First Diplomas with the Futurity last year and was high enough to qualify for the Final in the dressage section.

They're all passported, up to date with jabs and very good to handle.
I don't really want to sell any of them but I feel I owe more responsibility to those I have already bred rather than these that were bought in and recent times have proved that I'm not strong or fit enough to cope with or even want to cope with as many as I have just now. Weird, I've worked with them nearly all of my life but I'm ready to shut the door on most of them now, quite sad really but I have to be realistic so your help would be good!

Horsemart. Sob story. Bad spelling.

Sold!

In all honesty i find the site that has the most hits is always horsemart. Horsequest is good - but perhaps more for high end riding horses?

Gosh Pat I am really sorry you have decided to give up. Must have been a very hard decision.

With regard to where to sell, I had a good response from Horsemart for my filly and HorseQuest is also very good - you could do a multiple horse ad on HQ and actually get some good space to show them off.

Alternatively your local tack shops etc. would be a good place, I am sure you have a great reputation in the area - I am always intersted in youngstock in my area from well respected studs.

Good luck. x

You're far too kind to me MF but thank you all the same!

Yes, it was hard but what brought it home was how hard it was while we were all ill; I actually ended up leaving everything out 24/7 for nearly a week and throwing haylage at them in the field which I've never done before but none of us could hardly stand up let alone feed, muck out, bring in or out 8 horses (3 aren't mine!). Having worked with horses over 40 years, I'm used to doing while I'm ill but this was something else altogether and I never want to be in that situation again, which with age, I'm afraid it could be a regular problem and it's not fair to push the burden onto OH either.
As I said before, I think I owe more responsibility to those I have already bred myself, you know yourself how hard it is to find the right homes for them, so I want to get down to just Kitty and Dotty (who is coming back home!) and do them properly and have fun instead of just coping with all the others and not having the energy or money to do anything with them.

Sorry, that got a bit long!

TBH, haven't a clue! Difficult one and I need them to go to the right people and homes which will dictate the price to a bit as they're far more important to me than just the price if that makes sense.

sounds like it is a good decision. It can be awful trying to do lots of horses - I think you then end up giving them all good basic care but no specific attention or development which, in some respects (if you are not earning a living through doing it)is what owning horses is all about.
I am down to two at the moment (Mouse & Arwen) and I certainly feel that I can give them both more attention, which is lovely.

I hope you find them good homes.

Somebody else would have to write it then, I have an aversion to badly spelt anything and I'd always be thinking if they couldn't be bothered to learn how to spell would they be bothered to look after the horses either!

BACK OFF HES MINE

lol only messing hes gorgeous aint he

They're both stunning, I've had my eye on him for a while now.

You're safe though. I already have four and my two spare stables are filled with liveries. Hubby would likely divorce me if I bought any more!

Oh Pat. I am so sorry that you have been ill & cutting down but you do have to think of yourself.

I know how you feel I have had flu this last week & am sure it is "man flu" as it has knocked me for 6 & I am always snoozing.

Like I said if I could have a pure hunter then Freddy would be here.

Hoping you can sort out good homes for them & if you need to let of steam then just shout!

Horse select is quite good & fairly northern.

I'm really sorry to hear you've decided this Pat, although I can understand .... and I don't have 8!!!

I have no suggestions other than the obvious for advertising but I do hope you are successful in finding the right homes for them.

can see where you are coming from EXACTLY Pat.

it's been hard here too this winter as we have far more to feed than normal due to prices being low..if i'm to sell for meat money, i'll take them there my self!!!

as you know, i'd love harry..but pennies are tight ATM...
if you can give me a last offer price on him, i'd certainly have a good think about it though.

you really must think of yourself and this really can't be easy for you

big hug

Much as I hate to say it on a Horse and Hound forum, but horsemart has always got results for me. just the internet ad not the magazine, as I reckon anyone who is searching will do it online.
I fully understand your reasoning, we decided to stop accepting long term retirement horses as we had a vision of us in our seventies trudging round the fields in the depths of winter or getting knocked flying as our reflexes got slower.
My daughter is home at the moment and running the yard so we have taken a back seat, but how long for we don't know, we have cut down by selling one brood mare and hopefully as the oldies pop off the numbers will go down (I think we have thirty something at the moment).
Costs are rising all the time and there is also a time to stop and spend money and time on yourself; I'm looking forward to being able to travel and enjoy the sun in winter instead of worrying about the weather and if the horses need different rugs/more food etc.
I'd get then advertised, people are still buying despite the hype..

Yes - Horsemart gets loads of hits. I had to sell one of mine recently due to sad personal circumstances. I sold her through Adhorse (£5.00), priced her very realistically and sold her within 24 hours of advertising. If you price them to sell, then they will sell.

We have reduced from 6 to 3 this Winter and as they are living out, it is all very much easier.
I have let 2 go on loan and one is on loan with a view to buy but still waiting for some money.......
Good luck, I am sorely tempted by your in-foal mare but I MUST NOT buy anymore horses!

i can see where you are coming from......i am selling my sec c mare next year as i am struggling for time trying to keep 2 in work......if i had more time i'd love harry!!
price them to sell and they will!! the only reason i am keeping the sec c on over the winter is that she could be in foal to a special lad.....
