Where's he gone? Banned again?

Are JuliaFSH and Julia Hodkin the same person? I've been looking through your website, and see that you are a semen agent and a stallion owner (as well as working fulltime

).

Is is entirely appropriate for the NED to appoint someone who is a semen agent and stallion owner (I assume you sell his semen for profit) in a position where they have access to valuable information concerning breeders names and addresses?

I would say there's a conflict of interest there, and NED need to be very careful. This is not in anyway personal to Julia, as I'm sure her intentions are good, but the breed societies may not feel very happy about this, especially as it took so long to gain their trust.

Who else have they appointed?

Yes Julia FSH and Julia Hodkin are both me.

Fear not. Apart from my personal ethics in business which would prohibit me utilising any information I might have access to, there's the small legal matter of my specific obligations as a Director which would prohibit usage, and finally there's the Data Protection Act for those who remain in any doubt. I think that just about covers it!
laugh.gif

My role does not involve me rolling up my sleeves and wading through the data that is sent from the Data Providers. All the technical stuff is dealt with by the team at NED. My role is to help develop strong links between Data Providers and NED such that the data that is then available is the best it can possibly be. On the IT side, I'm there to provide commercial expertise on developing strategy for leveraging the system for the benefit of it's users (both the public and DEFRA), and the Data Providers themselves. My day to day work does not involve me coming into contact with horse owners personal details. I have the same access to data that you guys who've been Beta testers have had.

NED has deliberately chosen Directors with interests in horses as they wanted to keep the development of the system closley coupled to the very people who will utilise it, in order that the right sort of functionality is developed to best meet the needs of our users. They wanted the best of both worlds - commercial Directors with a strong awareness of the equestrian world.

I hope that allays any concerns you may have about conflicts of interest. Please feel free to PM me as well if you'd like to talk more.

It seems, jennyjones, that you have joined this forum specifically to beat this drum. It's a rather unfortunate way to adress any concerns you may have - and your remarks are arguably defamatory.

It is a fact of life that the people who hold active roles within breed societies and associated organisations (like NED) WILL have 'an interest' in the work of those societies/organisations. WHy else would they bother giving their times and talents? And what use would NED directors be if they had no experience of/interest in the breeds, breed societies etc. etc.

IME, organisations take great care to ensure their directors are people of good standing and reputation who will NOT 'trade' on their positions. IME also, the people who take on these roles tend to bend over backwards to avoid any action which might even HINT that they are capitalising on their office.

If you have GENUINE concerns (and aren't just winding up the topic for reasons of your own) I would suggest that you address them by PM to the people concerned.

I don't see this as beating any drum. The position is public and those who have the roles should answer publicly to any concerns the public may have.

A shame JanetGeorge needs to be so unpleasant (standard MO), where the person being asked the question (Julia), responded in such a pleasant and open way (which is normal for her).

JanetGeorge, please take a leaf out of Julia's book, she can teach you a great deal about how to be nice to people.

And you DON'T think it's 'unpleasant' to come onto a forum and - in your first posts - imply that capable and well qualified people who have been appointed to take on responsibilities might misuse their positions to their own advantage. And to do so on not just one thread - but two!

Julia answered extremely politely under the circumstances - and all credit to her - doesn't justify YOUR postings or the way you addressed these so-called concerns! THAT would suggest that no-one needs lessons from you in how to behave!

As a newbie who only joined yesterday, can I ask how you can come to the conclusion that unpleasantness for JanetGeorge is in your opinion 'standard MO' and how you seem to know that pleasantness is in your opinion 'normal' for Julie.

Seems a bit strange that your only concern regarding the development of NED is that it should not include people who have anything to do with selling semen for a living.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Have you been hiding under a bridge!!!!!!!!

It's not an unreasonable question. You only have to look at each persons personal profile and click on their previous posts. Julia takes a professional line on everything, where Janet................well I'm not going into it, as I have no intention of being next in line.

I don't understand why it is that posters are not allowed to have an opinion outside of the party line. Is there some apprenticeship that has to be served here? I'm an adult in my forties, and fully capable of having my own thoughts, but if it means I won't get shouted at then I'll have to fall in line and agree with everyone else so everything can just carry on the way it always has. I feel all warm and snuggly now.

You know, I did puzzle over:

So does that make you the same as him? Yes it does. You're no better and no worse. Just exactly the same.

at the start of this thread...

NOW I realise what he was getting at!

He was clearly already nurturing his inner female, preparing to make a comeback- as a bored housewife with too much time on his/her hands, and a really quite excruciating need to unclench....

Now I can't help wondering whether its necessary to dress up to get into role...
