Are JuliaFSH and Julia Hodkin the same person? I've been looking through your website, and see that you are a semen agent and a stallion owner (as well as working fulltime
).
Is is entirely appropriate for the NED to appoint someone who is a semen agent and stallion owner (I assume you sell his semen for profit) in a position where they have access to valuable information concerning breeders names and addresses?
I would say there's a conflict of interest there, and NED need to be very careful. This is not in anyway personal to Julia, as I'm sure her intentions are good, but the breed societies may not feel very happy about this, especially as it took so long to gain their trust.
Who else have they appointed?

Yes Julia FSH and Julia Hodkin are both me.
Fear not. Apart from my personal ethics in business which would prohibit me utilising any information I might have access to, there's the small legal matter of my specific obligations as a Director which would prohibit usage, and finally there's the Data Protection Act for those who remain in any doubt. I think that just about covers it!
My role does not involve me rolling up my sleeves and wading through the data that is sent from the Data Providers. All the technical stuff is dealt with by the team at NED. My role is to help develop strong links between Data Providers and NED such that the data that is then available is the best it can possibly be. On the IT side, I'm there to provide commercial expertise on developing strategy for leveraging the system for the benefit of it's users (both the public and DEFRA), and the Data Providers themselves. My day to day work does not involve me coming into contact with horse owners personal details. I have the same access to data that you guys who've been Beta testers have had.
NED has deliberately chosen Directors with interests in horses as they wanted to keep the development of the system closley coupled to the very people who will utilise it, in order that the right sort of functionality is developed to best meet the needs of our users. They wanted the best of both worlds - commercial Directors with a strong awareness of the equestrian world.
I hope that allays any concerns you may have about conflicts of interest. Please feel free to PM me as well if you'd like to talk more.
