I have a project lorry - very exciting :)

No lockers, and never will have, but it has a small grooms area.

I would like lots of saddle racks - if I used normal pole racks will the saddles fall off up/down steep hills or round corners? I don't drive like an idiot - but I like my saddles :)

I have seen the locking type, but they have the side bars which dent the flocking :(

If it's a worry about them falling off during transit, then Stubbs do a lockable saddle rack: https://totally-tack.com/stubbs-lockable-saddle-rack-saddle-minder/
Although you'll probably get away with wrapping some sort of grippy material around the regular pole racks (Vet wrap maybe, or that bobbly non-slip liner material you can buy?). At least then you'd still have the option to fold them down for space :)

Yes, I've had a saddle fall off a pole rack in transit, just the once. This was on a very twisty hilly route, it didn't even have a saddle cloth under, but just must have vibrated enough to wobble back and then off.
I don't take any chances now, mine travel head down on the floor, then once I pull up, go onto the pole rack again.

I've only used those poles in a hired box so it might be how they're fitted, but I've had a saddle fall off so mine just go on the floor

These look great, apart from the side bars - I don't want dented flocking after a long journey :(

i wonder if the direction of travel makes a difference? Eg if the the pole rack is mounted on a side wall of the lorry, vs on a bulkhead facing forwards or back is it more or less likely to fall off?

I use a saddlemate and put in the cupboard which is lockable. I hate having things stuck out everywhere 🤣

Mine are poles with like a kink upwards at the back (I'm trying to find a picture) - saddle's never come off and the horse lives up an actual mountain so we do a lot of windy and steep roads 😅

ETA: almost exactly like the Stubbs portable saddle rack in fact

With the amount of saddle thefts from lorries recently I'd go for the lockable ones and pad them.

Mine - as said further up - travels on the floor or front seat for a comp, for anything else then B usually travels in her saddle.
However, if I have to leave the box unattended and tack is in the back, it gets pulled out and put on the front seat as cab easily lockable and alarmed.

Following this as I’m having the issue of saddles falling off!

I’m thinking either getting a pole saddle rack that is on more of a slant, getting a tack pack or getting a saddle mate.

At the moment, my saddle goes on the floor!

I think fixing them so that the saddle travels facing forwards (on a front facing wall) would be best. You won’t accelerate sharply which is what would cause it to fall off backwards, but it you fixed it on the back wall, you might have to brake more sharply than you’d like and the saddle would come off. Equally, on the sides, there is a risk while cornering.
