Our 4 year old has just come back from being backed and has worn her back hooves down so needs to be shod but............ she is still really struggles to hold her hind feet up and gets in a bit of a state about it. I am quietly working on her every day to improve matters but it will be a few weeks at least before I would be happy to ask a farrier to shoe her. I was wondering about using hoof boots but would need a pair that were easy to put on. I thought at one time there was a solution that you could apply to the base of the hoof to protect them but have not had any sucess googling. Any ideas suggestions gratefully received

cavallo horseboots are dead easy.

though, without knowing your 4yo history, if the hooves are soft, do reconsider aspects of diet - it usually helps a lot :)

Look on the Easycare website, they have videos of many of their boots being put on. I use Old Mac's, and find them easy - open up, put hoof in boot, and the horse can put it's foot straight back down then if necessary whilst you do up the pastern strap and buckle.

I use Old Mac's but they can be a bit fiddly to put on at first... it gets easier with practice.

Although hoof boots can be used on all 4 feet, they are usually used just on the forefeet.

Have you though of using Keratex hoof hardener?..I've used it in the past and can wholeheartedly recommend it :D

OP in your circs I'd use Cavallos every time. But also if the feet really have worn down too much then there has been an issue with conditioning work (and probably diet too).
