I want to buy some long leather boots this year, and I would like to know which you find are the softest and most comfortable?

I like to be able to have lots of movement in my ankle so soft leather is a must!

I currently ride in boots and gaiters so I can have the movement in my ankle but now I want to replace them with some nice long boots.

I’ve heard that the Konig`s are very good, but also hard and take a lot of wearing in? Are they soft and flexible when they eventually do wear in?

This is for dressage use btw :)

I have Sarm Hippique's for competitions and they are super soft and comfy! Required no breaking in what-so-ever :D

For everyday I ride in Ariat Bromonts which are also very comfy and no need to break-in :D

Ariat Bromonts and Mountain Horse Supreme High Rider. I have the latter and they're gorgeous.

That said, if it's for posh dressage, then I wouldn't go for the Ariats. If it's for very very posh dressage, then not the MH either!

Sarm Hippique! I used to have a lovely pair for SJ but they eventually after years and years of battering wore out. I'm definately going to get another pair in the future as no 'breaking in' was required!

I like the Ariat bromonts too but the finish on them is horrid, they're always dull looking :(

I have Sergio Grasso's which are soft, they didn't need any breaking in. Five years on they look as good as new, though I have only used them for competing.

I would say Sarm Hippiques, i have a pair and so has a friend and we both agreed they took no breaking in. They are really soft and need trees or they flop about from the ankle i only use mine for comps and they still look great after several years. The only thing i would say that like with most really soft leather they can scratch easily, love them thou :)

I love my Parlanti (hope I spelt that correctly!). Took no breaking in and have lasted fabulously through a lot of work, mud, rain etc!

I am like you and have always ridden in chaps and boots as hated the feel of long boots but I now have two pairs of long boots which I love riding in. I have a pair of mountain horse supreme rider which I ride in every day and are really soft and look more like a pair of gaiters and I have a pair of Parlanti's for competing, which are new and are lovely and soft and I haven't needed to break them in, they look amazing as well.
I would go for the Parlanti's over the mountain horse supreme's but the Parlanti's are a bit more expensive than the mountain horse.

Thanks all very helpful , ive got a pair of Mountain Horse boots for eveyday that I love but wanted somthing a wee bit posher to keep for just comp use!

I haven’t seen the Sarm Hippique`s or Sergio`s in real life so il have to search out a stockist and try them on, they do look nice though!

Ihatework – where can I find the Tucci boots? I cant say ive ever heard of the brand before but I’ve not looked at long boots much so please excuse my ignorance!

KatB – I had in mid the DeNiros already as they are who made my gaiters, we are off to vv on Sunday so will ask Nicola if I can try them out!

Legend22, Dizzyblode – just googled for the Parlanti boots, I hadn’t heard of them but see Equiport sell them, they look very nice! Where did you buy yours from if you dont mind me asking as id prefer to try them before I buy :)

I got them from Equiport when I was at Olympia, I had my eye on either those or the DeNiros before I went but when I saw the Parlanti's I loved them, they fitted them for me whilst I was there and they fit lovely although the calf sizes are quite small compared to other boots but my calves are small so I was ok, they look very smart and look much better in real life than in the pictures.
I would say they are more posh looking than the mountain horse for the competition arena.
Hope you find a pair you like.

The Tucci are through Joshua Jones, you'd need to get measured up either at their shop or at a show they have a trade stand up. Spendy but lovely.

KatB reminds me the DN Caprice is a gorgous soft boot, worth a look at that as cheaper, the onlt thing I would say is they are more of an allround/sj boot rather than pure dressage

Another vote for Sarm Hippique, although I bust the zip on mine a few times and eventually the pretty shoddy stitching done by the various repairs took its toll. Lasted a good few years though and can't say I was the best at looking after them. The only thing is I measured myself up to order them online, then happened to be in a shop that stocked them, and the saleswoman insisted I squeezed into a regular width (when I was going for at least 1 if not 2 sizes wider) as she said they would stretch a bit and she was right.

Another vote for sarms! Ive got the field ones so elasicated laces down the front/ankle and they are by far the most comfiest Ive had that I feel I can actually ride in - I used to have some cavallos but no matter how much I tried to break them in I always felt rigid!

Keep an eye on derby house as they often have very very good offers on the sarms, thats where I got mine and I think I paid £230 for the leather soled field boots which normally retail about £500! bargain!

Mountain Horse Supreme High Rider!!

Extremely soft.. If I don't have my boot trees in they flop over at the ankle.... Been like that since new aswell so no breaking in needed!

I bought a pair of Blasi Italia boots a couple of years back and they are lovely and soft. Not sure who stocks them. They were not that expensive.

Unfortunately my upper calves have got fatter and they don't fit now. Should sell them but sort of hope my legs may get thinner (not sure how but they were to start off with!).

just made the leap myself at olympia bought some broginis they are super soft but tried on the more expensive ones and they just elted they were amazing!! :D would have got them but bit pricey but yes imo all broginis are lovely and comfy with lots of ankle freedom! xx

My Sarm Hippique and MH Supreme High Riders both flop from ankle if have no trees in. My De Niro's are stiffer&are not as comfy(not sure what model they are but they are not Caprices). The DN's and MH supremes have more of a Spanish/dressage cut top.
