I use the charles owen one and i wear the charles owen t-shirt with built in shoulder pads underneath it. I find it really light weight and having the shoulder pads built into the t-shirt gives me a lot more movement in my arms. Also it means that wherever my arms move they are always protected by the pads.

Cheers, I forgot about shoulder protection LOL!. It was only just coming out when I got my last one! LOL You can see why I need to up date it! It is a Airo wear standard 3 which feels very numb & get really hot in it.
What are the shoulder protectors like in the T shirt? I have my X country shirt so wouldn't be ablet ot wear one of them. What are the ones like on the body protectors?? Do they restrict movement at all?

I have the new woof wear exo one! Is very bulky and feels heavy when you first put it on, but once riding round it is fine and doesn't restrict movement at all. I feel very safe in it and don't care if people think i look stupid! I have it on in the pic and it doesn't look too bulky here:

I have a Rodney Powell as well, I find it comfortable and they made mine for me special as I needed a different size front to the back - didn't cost any more

Ooooh you can have them moulded to you now

Sounds good. Can you also get them in your colours??
Nomini; you wouldn't really tell from your pic that it is much bigger apart from the space around your arms.
Decisions, Desicions!! Feel a spending spree coming on LOL though will have to go find somewhere that stocks them to try them on as I totally dont understand the fitting measurments
esp R Powell's!!

Dieseldog; sounds good as can be certain that I wouldn't be a normal fit!!

The t-shirt is reasonably tight fitting and the shoulder pads are basically bits of rubber that slot into the shoulder area of the t-shirt. The rubber in the t-shirt does work though, i got thrown onto a jump last season and hit it with my shoulder first and only got a slight bruise. I usually wear both the t-shirt and the body protector under my XC colours, however it depends how thick your colours are coz you could get quite hot.

I also have a Rodney Powell, had it fitted as well and it's fab. It's uncomfortable for the first 10 seconds when I put it on and it's a relief when I take it off, but once it's on I don't notice it at all. Very comfy and it moulds to your shape with your body heat. I got mine for a very reasonable price too.

Could be a very good idea for me, as wasn't planning on getting them but thinking about it 2 yrs ago had a crashing fall & ruptured my shoulder joint. So me thinks it could be worth it! Will have to try one & see! Colours are quite thin not overly thick, have rugger & polo shirt.

So Rodney Powell so far seems to be the most favorite. Is it a particular type of his or are they all pretty similar??
When you had them made to your shape/size how long did it take before it was ready for you??
Many thanks for all you help so far everyone

they are only one type io think

i just had mine fitted :0 after wearing it a few times when it gets warm it kind of shpes to you....totally agree with silmarrilion about comfort wise

I have a rs racesafe 2000 and i have shoulder pads for mine as well. Ive tried all the other but found them all ridgid are horrid.

Mine was 170 with the shoulders buts its made up of independant hinded section to move with you. You forget your wearing it TBH.

They can be made to measure for any size and you can have them custom made in your colours.

Theres the link for you to have a look at...

loe mine its saved me many times without being bulky- my other used to hit the back of my hat and push my hat over my eyes xc which is def not fun.

I was speaking to a GP the other day who often is a medic at BE events. he was talking about this body protector, and was puzzled by the fact that you are locked in - his main problem being that if there was an acccident and he needed to get the body protector off asap....what would happen if the key wasnt there? or is it always kept on the body protector?

Cobra girl too. Rodney Powells are so uncomfy for me. I've heard paramedics say the same thing too about the exo hammiehamlet.

Key is kept permanently in the body protector, you have to cut the material open to get key out so no chance of losing it!

Agree, can be quite expensive but worth it, very comfy and adjustable too.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I am very long in my back so hopefully length wont be to much of an issue??
Think I will have to fing a stockist with them all in and see which is most comfortable!! Should be a fun day LOL!

I have a Jack Ellis and hate it! Its so big and bulky but I can't afford a new one. My sister has an areowear which i have tried on but its too small but I think I would go for one of those.

I have an air o wear really like it. I really wanted a racesafe but the staff were so rude and up themselves at Badminton I gave up. I found the cobras horrendous to wear as so big and bulky.

I have the rodney powell one, which i really like - comfortable and not restrictive. I did originally want the cobra but i tried it on and it just did not sit right on my body shape. I would definately recommend trying before you buy to get the best fit possible for you

Thanls everyone. Looks like I am off to Derby House then to try some on a see which fits best then!! (makes not - DO NOT take plastic LOL!) Could end up being seriously expensive trip otherwise!! LOL
