I know this is a difficult question.
There are so many out there.

I just want a good balancer without the added sweepings!

Would a vitamin and mineral supplement be better?
I've tried to avoids these as then I have to add it to something and my TB is fussy!

Any suggestions?

Is bluechip good?
Equilibra500?

What vitamins or minerals is your horse deficient in?

I want an over all balancer.
I haven't had the grass or hay analysed.
Or him blood tested recently.

I don't want to be buying bags and bags of herbs and supplements.

I want a broad range balancer.
But most of them, even the supposed good one are full of fillers.
Like, Wheat feed and oat feed.

I just use Spillers senior balancer and find it pretty good. Or just feed a complete feed at the rations suggested so you don't need a balancer or vit &min supplement?

Or Equivite is good if you want a supplement to add to a feed.

And balancers probably have fillers such as wheat and oat feed to keep it all together so your horse can actually eat it - same reason as tablets have coatings!

I use blue chip original & baileys performance balancer with mine-- can honestly say they look amazing on it (one horse on each) so would rate them both. Blue chip is more expensive but also conditioning, if you need it.

Blue Chip is brilliant, Ive tried most of them out there & I really rate Blue Chip. The original will help with condition, the native will maintain your horse in their current condition and the lami light will help with weight loss. I have 2 horses and a shetland pony and I've used all 3 products and can honestly say they do what they claim.

The 'best of the rest' is Saracen BioLife in my opinion, a really good balancer and a bit cheaper then Blue Chip.

Yes, but with the 'buy so many and get a bag free' offer blue chip has I find their price reasonable! I'm wanting to use the Pro Balancer now they're getting more work & hope thats as good

Lots of the big brand ones contain loads of iron which we have far too much of in most UK pasture and not enough, or not the right ratios of the stuff we are lacking. Extra iron is bad rather than good so not sure why they add it. The things we are most often short of is magnesium, selenium, copper, lysine, methionine, phosphorus, zinc. Supplements to google are Equivita, Forage Plus, Pro Earth. I'm about to switch from Equimins meta balance 2 (you have to ring and ask for it) and try Equivita as it has better levels of the stuff we are generally most deficient in. Lots of people saying to add Linseed and vitamin E in winter.

Be wary of anything that doesn't tell you exactly what's in it on the website. Somebody on the Phoenix horse forum did a spreadsheet comparing the contents of pretty much every supplement on the market. It's pretty shocking how low the level of vits and mins are in some of the big brand ones.

This exactly! I wont feed anything with iron in it as most UK pasture is high in iron. I also look for high levels of copper and zinc in the right ratio. I saw a noticeable difference changing from Pro Hoof to Equivita :)

I was on the blue chip lami lite and it is really good however have just swapped onto the equivita as have moved from DIY to part livery which includes feeds.

So he will just have a couple of handfuls of dengie molasses free with the equivita as I think this is going to be more cost effective than buying in the lami lite. The dengie molasses free is one of the feeds included as part of his livery and it seems a bit silly to be paying for something and not using it, he is a good doer native pony and I also think this option is going be the lowest calorie option as well.

Baileys stud balancer for my TB, it isn't just for youngstock etc but also performance horses. He lives out is a great weight and is barefoot with super feet. I also feed graze on, speedibeet and linseed oil, this is just what I have found that works for me and my TB.

If equivita contains himalayan rock salt does that mean that it contains extra iron even if iron is not listed as an ingredient?
